You served others. Let us serve you.

Beginning September 11, Phoenix Counseling Center is expanding our support for Veterans in Gaston and Cleveland counties with Veterans Services held Tuesdays and Fridays at 1 PM.

Leading the group is Andrew, a U.S. Army Veteran, Peer Support Specialist, and Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor Intern.

Andrew served as an Infantryman from 2011 to 2018, including a deployment to Kandahar, Afghanistan. After returning home to North Carolina, he faced his own challenges with PTSD, alcohol, substance use, and the transition to civilian life. Today, he uses both his lived experience and professional training to help other Veterans find recovery, rebuild relationships, set goals, and rediscover purpose.

Our Veterans Services will provide a place where Veterans can connect with someone who understands military culture and the challenges that can come after service.

Recovery is possible. Hope is real. Asking for help is a sign of strength.

Yesterday was International Overdose Awareness Day, and we were fortunate to spend it alongside our communities in Cleveland, Gaston, and Lincoln counties.

We had the opportunity to hear incredible speakers at each event share stories of loss, recovery, resilience, and hope.

I often tell people I’ve never cried as much at a job as I have working in behavioral health. But if there’s one thing that gets me every time, it’s hope.

There is something incredibly powerful about being surrounded by people who have experienced some of the hardest moments imaginable and still choose to show up, share their stories, support one another, and believe that recovery is possible.

It is a gift to be surrounded by so much hope and strength.

Thank you to everyone who organized these events, shared their story, remembered someone they love, or simply showed up. We were honored to be there with you.

Today, Phoenix is showing up across all three counties we serve.

In recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day, our teams will be joining community partners throughout Gaston, Cleveland, and Lincoln counties to remember the lives lost to overdose, support those who are still here, and connect our communities with resources that can save lives.

No matter where you choose to recognize the day, Phoenix will be there.

Today is about remembrance, but it is also about hope. Reducing stigma saves lives. Harm reduction saves lives. Recovery is possible.

We’re going to be busy Monday!

Phoenix Counseling Center will be out in Gaston, Lincoln, and Cleveland counties in recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day.

Our teams will be joining community partners across all three counties to remember those we’ve lost, support those in recovery, raise awareness, and connect our neighbors with resources that can save lives.

So, no matter where you choose to recognize the day, Phoenix will be there.

We’re proud to stand alongside the communities we serve as we remember, educate, reduce stigma, and remind everyone that recovery is possible.

💜On August 31, Phoenix Counseling Center will join the Lincoln County Drug Prevention & Recovery Coalition and our community to remember the lives lost to overdose, support those currently in recovery, and raise awareness about overdose prevention.

📅 August 31, 2026
⏰ 5:00–7:00 PM
📍 200 Gamble Dr., Lincolnton, NC

This free community event will feature harm reduction supplies, community resources, light refreshments, a Memory Wall, Recovery Wall, rock painting, and more.

Overdose affects families, friends, coworkers, and entire communities. By coming together, remembering those we've lost, and supporting those still on their journey, we can continue working toward a future with fewer lives lost.

Want to help someone in our community who is working to get back on their feet?

Our Peer Support team at Gaston Outpatient maintains a Blessings Cabinet, Clothing Closet, and Client Supply area to provide everyday essentials directly to individuals we serve. These resources are used regularly, and we're asking our community to help us restock some of our most-needed items.

🥫 Food & Drinks
Ready-to-eat, non-perishable foods are especially helpful for individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability. Current needs include pull-top canned foods, tuna or chicken kits, peanut butter and crackers, granola bars, cereal cups, fruit cups, individually packaged snacks, bottled water, and other foods requiring little or no preparation.

🧴 Personal Care
Soap, shampoo and conditioner, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, and other basic toiletries.

👕 Clothing
Clean, gently used clothing, shoes, coats, seasonal items, and new socks in all sizes. We are especially in need of men's clothing right now.

📓 Recovery & Everyday Supplies
Notebooks, journals, current-year planners, folders, pens, pencils, and other organizational supplies.
Something as simple as a planner, clean outfit, or meal can make a meaningful difference for someone managing appointments, Recovery Court requirements, treatment, employment, and the everyday work of rebuilding their life.

📍 Donations can be dropped off at the Peer Support Office at Gaston Outpatient or left with the front desk.

Thank you to everyone who continues to help us meet people where they are. Your donations go directly toward supporting members of our community when they need it most. 💙
