🌡️ Cooling Locations Available Beginning Today

As summer temperatures rise, the City of Gastonia and Gaston County are working together to help residents find temporary relief during periods of extreme heat.

Beginning today, June 15 through September 15, designated cooling areas will be available at City of Gastonia community centers when temperatures are forecasted to reach 95° or higher.

Residents may also visit Gaston County libraries and other public facilities during their normal operating hours to cool off.

📍 Cooling location options include:
🏢 City community centers
📚 County libraries
🏛️ Other public facilities open during normal business hours

⏰ Designated City cooling areas will operate from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM when activated.

These spaces are intended to provide temporary relief from extreme heat. Visitors are expected to follow all facility rules and policies.

Gaston County Residents: You May Qualify for Free Home Energy Upgrades! Join the Center for Energy Education and partners to learn about the NC DEQ Energy Saver North Carolina Program, which helps eligible homeowners and renters make their homes more energy efficient at no cost. Volunteers will be available on-site to help complete applications.

🍎 Help Shape the Future of Food in Gaston County! 🌽

The Gaston County Food Policy Council is bringing together community members and organizations to improve access to healthy, affordable food for everyone in Gaston County.

Our members work on important food system issues, including nutrition education, food access, local agriculture, and support for food assistance programs. The Council includes representatives from health care, food pantries, farmers markets, government agencies, nonprofits, businesses, farmers, and community members.

Beginning June 15 through September 15, designated cooling areas will be available at City community centers when temperatures are forecasted to reach 95° or higher. Residents may also visit county libraries and other public facilities during normal operating hours.

These locations are intended to provide a safe, temporary place to cool off during extreme heat conditions.
