What an unforgettable evening! The challenge—to “build” a home in just one night—was straightforward yet demanding, and the Gaston community rose to the occasion. We are so grateful to our friends who attended and supported this, our first gala and celebration, as part of the family. Your generous spirit transformed the One Night Build Gala into a vibrant celebration of community.

The evening featured former Habitat Gaston Board President, Patrick Mumford, and Habitat Charlotte Region President & CEO, Laura Belcher, as they shared the mission of Habitat and the greater possibilities ahead as a united organization. We honored Sally and Gwin Hilton for their decades of service to Habitat Gaston and our county as a whole.

As we move forward on this exciting journey as Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region, we invite you to stay connected (follow Habitat Charlotte Region on social media) and continue to be the leaders, supporters, and advocates that you are. Thank you!

The Charity Golf and Pickleball Tournaments will be on Nov. 1 at the Cramer Mountain Club in Cramerton. Golf Starts at 10:00 am and Pickleball at 11:30 am, with lunch and reception included. For more information and sign-up, visit:

🎊On October 1st, we experienced two momentous occasions, one celebrating the past and present, and the other embracing the future.

🫡 🥳 On October 1st, Habitat for Humanity's most honored supporter, President Jimmy Carter, turned the page on a century of personal and national history. He is the first United States President to reach the age of 100 years young. He has lived the kind of life that fills you *with* life—humility, service to others, openness, willingness, and honesty. Increasingly, the role models of popular media are often very different from the humanitarian president and the type of life he has to offer - but what we have found by walking in his footsteps, doing the hard work, often for total strangers (just "pre-friends!"), as he and Rosalyn did, is the most fulfilling. 💓😎

🤝 On the same day, Habitat Gaston officially became part of Habitat of the Charlotte Region. Quite literally, the person writing this is from a desk in Charlotte. The folks at Habitat Charlotte are just as kind, dedicated, and people-centric as we are, and that has gone a long way in gaining our confidence. It's all in the name of helping as many people in Gaston County as we can. Gaston County has much to look forward to, and combining resources and sharing talent is already having a significant impact. In fact, we'll be having a ReStore party next week with fun, food trucks, and radio DJs... stay tuned! 📺📻

💪🔨Dear Dixon Village Mission Community,🤸‍♂️🎉

From that cold day in January 2022 when we broke ground at Dixon Village, it’s been an incredible journey. This project was unlike anything Habitat Gaston had done before, and it came during a challenging time for all. Despite every obstacle, our supporters, sponsors, volunteers, partner families, and contractors have shown remarkable dedication. Together, we’ve created something extraordinary.

🏘 Dixon Village Today
Dixon Village now features 28 homes, 16 of which are Habitat homes. Four were sold at market rate, 10 belong to Habitat partner families, and 2 are still available. The remaining homes were sold to our construction partner, Thomas Construction. Dixon Village has become the mixed-income community we envisioned, benefitting future generations of Gaston County.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 A Neighborhood Designed for Connection
Dixon Village encourages interaction with a thoughtful design. A sidewalk loops around half of the community, leading to a shaded trail, a playground, and a meeting area. Complete with picnic tables and new playground equipment, it’s a perfect spot for neighbors to gather and build lasting bonds.

🎨 Finishing Touches
Although the project was large, it’s amazing to see only a few tasks left:
👉 Finish re-paving the road
👉 Convert the runoff pond into a sediment pond
👉 Install the neighborhood sign

With these final steps, Dixon Village will be a complete community—not just in appearance but in spirit. This neighborhood stands as a testament to the generosity and dedication of everyone involved.

All promotions aside, I will never miss one of these events again; even if I didn't work here, I would go. The chance to be amazed by regular folks—my ordinary neighbors, the person behind me in the grocery checkout line—and just the depth of generosity, compassion, and concern for their community displayed at our Galas, even if those they are helping are total strangers, is a perception-altering thing and too life-affirming to miss out on. 🎉Groundbreaking Day!🎉

We came together with friends and supporters to officially begin the construction of a home for Ebony and the two children she cares for. With prayer and hopes for the future, we turned earth as a community, writing encouragement and blessings on the first pieces of framing that will make a new home for this family. This home represents a new chapter for Habitat in Gaston County as construction concludes at Dixon Village. The homeowner has certainly done her part, displaying incredible patience and determination as the pandemic threw home construction and the housing market for a loop. We hope that this represents the new beginning she always wished for.

We are forever grateful to the many individuals, organizations, and businesses whose support made this possible, among them Wells Fargo, Canopy Housing Foundation, Gaston Community Foundation, Inc., First Presbyterian Church of Belmont, NC, and of Gastonia, Southminister Presbyterian Church, and many smaller but dedicated donors giving what they can. We hope you give yourself a chance to appreciate the miracle, tangible as it is profound, that this home will be for this family, as is the case with every home we build. The joy that comes from that is just as crucial to the process.
