Gastonia Civitan Club

Gastonia Civitan Club Community Service Organization "Building Volunteer Leaders in Clubs Around the World" is the motto of Civitan. The Gastonia Club is very rich in tradition.

It was chartered in May of 1922 being the 70th club chartered at the time. What began as a daycare for special needs kids on Dallas-Cherryville Hwy, eventually called itself The Mary Ellen Nelson Center; which in turn changed into Webb Street School and moved to its current location-- the old Peden Elementary on Webb St in Gastonia. The founders of this school, looking to organize into a community

service club saw the natural fit of their ideas and the ideals of Civitan, and the perfect marriage was formed. Currently there are nearly 1000 clubs worldwide. The Gastonia Club resides in District West of North Carolina. District West serves more people than any other district in the world.

Francis Essic passed away this morning. He was a Civitan legend and will be greatly missed. We will post funeral arrangements as soon as possible.

Next meeting, Wedneday, Sept 20, 2017, will be a birthday celebration for residents of Holy Angels. Civitan will meet at 12:15 for lunch. Afterwards, we will have cake and ice cream and celebrate with those who have recent birthdays. If you'd like to join us, please send a message.

This has been a wonderful International Convention in Birmingham! I wish we could all tour the International Research Center, and see what Civitan has been such a huge part of.

We had a great time with Webb St School today. The Gastonia Civitan provided pizza from CiCi's for the students and staff. The Ashbrook HS Wrestling team visited the classrooms and sang Christmas carols. Santa also showed up and spent time with the kids. Merry Christmas Webb St School!!!
