Good morning parents, A reminder that we have our very special hit the trail activity this Saturday January 25th. It would be great if we had 100% attendance from the entire troop.

The local HAM radio clubs are having their winter field day this January and I have secured a guide to show us around what an emergency communication deployment looks like. This is very exciting and will satisfy 2 hit the trail activities for 2 separate awards for Woodlands trail. For the Adventurers and navigators, this satisfies one of the badges that the boys can receive in Communications Technology. This particular badge takes longer to achieve, however we can check off quite a few of these at this event. From my research, not many in Trail Life have achieved this badge so this is a good start.

We will be meeting at First United Methodist Church in Stanley North Carolina at 12 pm. We will gather and have a quick lesson to satisfy core skills for the Woodlands Trail and go over requirements for the communications technology Badge and check off another few items. This event should be wrapped up for us around 2:30 or 3 as the main event starts at 2 and we are being given a guided tour before it starts. Once it starts, they will be very busy so we will observe for a little bit and then go.

The address is 5481 Hickory Grove Rd, Stanley, NC 28164

Lunch will not be provided so please be sure your boy is fed before he comes!

Hello Parents,

I have set up a very special hit the trail activity for Saturday January 25th. It would be great if we had 100% attendance from the whole troop.

We will gather and have a quick lesson to satisfy core skills for the Woodlands Trail and go over requirements for the communications technology Badge and check off another few items. This event should be wrapped up for us around 230 or 3 as the main event starts at 2 and we are being given a guided tour before it starts. Once it starts, they will be very busy so we will observe for a little bit and then go.

The address is

A special treat,

We will most likely be able to use one of the 2 meter radios to speak with a centenarian (102 almost 103 years old) who lives in a nursing home in Gastonia that would love to talk with the kids. I hope we can make a good impression and see if he could come to a meeting one night to talk about his life.

I really hope that all of you can come and I look forward to having a great day there. Plus I will be bringing a treat for the whole troop.

Good morning troop! Just a reminder that there is no meeting tonight or the 30th. We will meet back January 6th for our Court of Honor!

Good morning troop and parents,

This coming Monday the Woodland’s trail will meet at the Police station. We will do a tour with one of our local police officers, Drew Brack. We will meet at the front of the Police station and will be given a tour of the facilities as well as their auto cage including their motorcycles and SWAT vehicles so it will be a fun night!

The address for the police station is 200 East Long Avenue Gastonica, NC 28052 Afterwards, we will end the night with some ice cream for the troop!

The Navigators and Adventurers will meet at the church in the Hangar. You will have the facilities all to yourself so enjoy! See everyone Monday!

Hello Parents,

As it pertains to awards

I would like to remind you to help your boys with their Joining award requirements as this is the only way that they will get their awards in January. I provided cheat sheets for memorization at the beginning of the semester. The requirements are

Memorize the Trailman Oath
Learn the Trailman sign and when to use it (In meetings)
Learn the trialman salute and when to use it (in meetings)
Learn the trailman handshake (In meetings)
Memorize the pledge of Allegiance
Understand how to properly fold the American flag (in meetings)

Missed Meetings and extra credit

As we had started the semester late, there is opportunity for your trailman to earn an extra award for this semester. In the Woodlands trail guide, there are some home activities that can be done to meet the requirements for the achievement. These can also be done if they are absent for a meeting. I will scan the activities that can be done and send them to you in an email very soon.

I am allowing one activity from the outdoor skills section to be completed for the home activities for credit for their Outdoor Skills achievement.

Make up work is allowed with one home activity for each branch that we learn in a semester. If they miss one night, they can perform the activity and you may report to their Patrol Guides the completion of the activity. This will make up for a missed meeting. If two meetings are missed for a given branch, you can only complete one home activity for credit. Missing more than one meeting does not stop them from earning their achievement. I recommend if two meetings are missed, that one of these activities are completed for credit and they won’t fall behind. Special considerations for absences will be considered by the troop executive committee. Attending hit the trail activities are another way to make up for missed lessons.

Campout and Hit the Trail activity November 22nd and 23rd

The location of the campout and hit the trail activity will be located at King’s Mountain National Park.

1277 Park Rd, Blacksburg, SC 29702

For the campout, we have reserved Primitive campsite 7. THIS CAMP OUT IS FOR NAVIGATORS AND ADVENTURERS ONLY (6TH-12TH GRADE). Matt and George will be sending out more information on times through email very shortly. Please respond to them if your Trailman is able to attend. The campout is scheduled for the night of the 22nd and 23rd with the 23rd being an optional night. The trialman should be ready for pickup around 8 am.

For the hit the trail activity (THIS ACTIVITY IS FOR ALL TRAILMEN K-12TH), we will meet November 23rd at 9am at the visitors center and begin the activities at 9:30am. Please pack a lunch as during lunch, we will have a lesson to make sure that we get as many achievements taken care of for this short semester.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to email [email protected] or call or text my cell at 520-396-8688.

Thank you!
