GARY FIRE CELEBRATES EMS WEEK 2026 🚑🚒

This week, communities across the country are celebrating National EMS Week 2026, May 17 through May 23.

⭐ IMPROVING OUTCOMES, TOGETHER! ⭐

That is this year’s national theme, and it speaks to the heart of EMS across the country: better patient care, faster response, advanced training, modern life saving equipment, and every part of the emergency care system working together.

For the Gary Fire Department, that message is personal. It means responding quickly and safely, training until critical skills become second nature, using the best tools available, and working as one team when every second matters.

From dispatch to the scene, from the ambulance to the emergency room, every role matters and every second counts.

To every EMS professional on the front line, thank you for your skill, sacrifice, dedication, and heart.

Members of Gary Firefighters Local 359, serving through our Gary Fire Prevention Team, were grateful to be welcomed into Beveridge School for Awards Day and proud to celebrate students who earned every smile, every medal, and every round of applause. 🏅

This is what service looks like beyond the firehouse. It is showing up for our youth, cheering them on, and letting them know their community believes in them.

To the students of Beveridge School, keep shining, keep learning, and keep making your families, your school, and your city proud.

IRON SHARPENS IRON!!! 💪🏾🔥

Today was about the work that keeps our union strong and the Brotherhood that keeps it moving forward as local, state, and international union leadership came together in Gary, Indiana to strengthen relationships, build structure, and move with purpose and unity.

PFFUI Vice President Hank Harris, PFFUI Political Director and Assistant to the President for Legislative Affairs Cody Lever, PFFUI President Tony Murray, Gary Firefighters Local 359 President Kevin Benford, and IAFF 8th District Vice President Mark Sanders sat down with one mission… to keep advancing the work, support our members, and make sure our brothers and sisters remain protected and whole. Afterward, we broke bread at the Hard Rock Casino in Gary, Indiana, continuing the conversation and strengthening the bond.

To my brothers, thank you for coming down, standing with us, and continuing to show up for Gary Firefighters Local 359 when it matters. We truly appreciate your support, guidance, partnership, hard work, commitment, and sacrifice. This work is not about one man. It is about the entire membership, the shared mission, the vision we are building, and the responsibility we all carry together. When we stand together in true Brotherhood, we strengthen the union, protect our members, and move forward with unity, purpose, and love for the people we represent.

Much love and deep appreciation to Professional Fire Fighters Union of Indiana President Tony Murray and Vice President Hank Harris for coming out and standing with us as we signed our first contract in 22 years.
We also want to thank the union leaders, fire chiefs, and our surrounding departments and locals who showed up and stood with us on a day our members will never forget. That kind of love, respect, and brotherhood means everything, and we truly felt it.
