Gardens tend to tell a story… a favorite plant, a scent that evokes memories, a name of the person who you loved more than anything and taught you the art of tending a garden. Last week a Chicago woman named Kathleen contacted us after she had posted on a facebook group in search of a rose named Marie Louise. By chance a member of the MGC saw the post and encouraged her to contact us which she did. You see, this rose is no longer cultivated in the U. S., and Marie Louise was her mother, the person who encouraged her to fall in love with gardening. She had passed suddenly in August. Kathleen had no closure, and she sought far and wide to find this rose as a way to pay tribute to the woman she loved so deeply. As fate would have it we did have the Marie Louise in our collection. So of course Razvon Bancos curator of the library rose garden invited her to the garden and gifted her with a few cuttings of the Marie Louise. A touching moment that we share with you today. This is the Miller Garden Club. Great people doing great things…making my our neighborhood beautiful, loving the art of planting, loving plants, and loving those who love it too ❤️ If you’re not a member think about joining our club. It’s a great way to pass the time with really nice people and hey a little dirt never hurt anyone 😉

So Sunny tomorrow ☀️Don’t forget to join us tomorrow for the Miller Garden Club Fall Fest Bulbs, Brats, & Brews!🍻It’s going to be an extravaganza and so much fun! Bring your pocketbook because we’ll have a bake sale, botanicals from the herb garden, pie orders for the holidays, native plants, pumpkins, Dash Dogs ( I mean who doesn’t love puppies 🐶) a goldmine of rummage!!! And some lively Bluegrass music to set the mood! All the money we raise goes back into the Miller community and keeping so beautiful!

What to you get when you attend a Garden Club Exchange?? Well garden clean up, new plantings, and lots of fun for everyone! Today the MGC met up with the Aetna Garden Club and their youth program over in Aetna. We cleared tree debris, planted new areas, and most importantly created Community 😊 This my friends is the best of Gary Indiana! Hope that you’ll think about joining us the next time we meet up. We’ll let you know😉

Perfection! That is the forecast next Saturday😊 Sunny, with lots of bulbs ready to plant, a bit of rummage, some pumpkins, herbal concoction from the garden, fresh baked goods to indulge and pies to order for the holidays! Top it all of with fresh grilled Brats, some brews, and the sounds of Bluegrass. Yes indeed! A Perfect Fall Day!

Well, well, well! Here we are at episode #9! After being so inspired in our last segment with Native American, Billie Warren, we didn’t hesitate when we got the opportunity to take our podcast on the road to the Obama Presidential Center further exploring the indigenous heritage of our area and discussing the opportunities to teach and inspire young people to become garden-wise and world shapers. We know you’re going to enjoy our young changemaker, Amiee McDonald, born and raised in Miller Beach! Amiee shares her experience working at the OPC. Her light is thoughtful, bright, and uplifting. Amiee represents the many young leaders hailing from Gary Indiana. We are so proud of Aimee and the young people in our city…please take a listen because we know you’ll be proud too!
