As we continue to honor the life and legacy of Carlton L. Guthrie, we want to share information regarding a second memorial service celebrating his extraordinary impact and contributions.

Because Carlton served as Co-Chair of Detroit Chassis and was a respected contributor to the Detroit community, an additional memorial service will be held in Detroit, Michigan.

Some are heading to college.
Some are entering the workforce.
Some are learning a trade.
Some are joining the military.

Every path forward deserves to be celebrated.

At GAPS, we believe success is not one-size-fits-all. We are proud of every student taking the next step toward their future with courage, determination, and purpose.

With gratitude and remembrance, Gary Alumni Pathways to Students (GAPS) shares the memorial service information honoring our founder, mentor, and visionary, Carlton L. Guthrie.

Mr. Guthrie believed deeply in the power of education, opportunity, leadership, and community. His vision helped shape GAPS into an organization committed to ensuring students connect to meaningful experiences, caring adults, and future-ready pathways.

This event gives students a chance to hear from alumni who have built careers, businesses, families, and lives beyond high school. It also reminds them that they are part of a community that continues to support them long after graduation.

With profound sadness and deep gratitude, 𝗚𝗔𝗣𝗦 𝗺𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿, 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿, 𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱, 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗟. 𝗚𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗲.

He believed deeply in Gary. He believed deeply in young people. And he believed that success means reaching back and lifting others as you climb.

Because of his vision, students gained mentors, scholarships were created, and young people were reminded that greatness can come from Gary.

We honor him. We thank him. And we will continue the work.
