Through the Work Experience (WEX) Program, Northwest Indiana employers can help young people gain real-world experience while strengthening their own talent pipeline. Participants can work up to 320 hours, with WorkOne Northwest Indiana and Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Inc. covering wages, payroll taxes, and workers’ compensation. It’s a practical way to invest in future talent—without adding financial burden to your organization.

CWI extends a sincere thank you to FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency and United Steelworkers Local 1014 for bringing the Lake County One-Stop Shop to Gary and providing in-person assistance and guidance to homeowners and renters affected by the recent derecho.

We were grateful to be part of this community resource event, with WorkOne Northwest Indiana on site to connect residents whose employment was affected by the storm with workforce resources, services and support.

Thank you to all the partner agencies that came out to help those in need. When disaster impacts a community, recovery takes all of us working together. 💙

Meet Tami, a former NWI Works Fast Track to Top Jobs Bootcamp participant who received a job offer from Daifuku just a week and a half after completing the program! 👏🏽

Tami’s story also shows what can happen when training is paired with continued support. With her Career Advisor Georzella and the Fast Track team working alongside her, Tami was able to build on the skills she gained in the program and take the next step in her career.

That kind of coordinated support is at the heart of NWI Works, a collaborative workforce initiative bringing together the Center of Workforce Innovations, Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Inc., United Way Northwest Indiana , and local community stakeholders to connect Region residents with training, resources and career opportunities.

CWI was proud to join United Way Northwest Indiana on Friday, September 18, for its Day of Caring, rolling up our sleeves for projects benefiting the City of Gary.

Our team — including CWI President & CEO Lisa Daugherty — worked alongside community volunteers and some pretty familiar faces: mascots representing the Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox and Chicago Blackhawks! ⚾🏒

Thank you to United Way of Northwest Indiana, the Cubs, White Sox and Blackhawks for showing up for Gary and demonstrating what it means to be invested in Northwest Indiana. We’re proud to be part of a region that comes together to make a difference. ❤️
