The Gary Chapter of The National Drifters, Incorporated is Driftin' for Democracy, and we want every voice in our community heard on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

📌 Key dates for Indiana voters:

✅ Thursday, Oct. 22: Last day for your absentee ballot application to be received

✅ Tuesday, Nov. 3, 6 p.m.: Absentee ballots must be received to be counted

Indiana voters: Know before you vote.

When you head to the polls either to early vote or in Nov. 3, you'll see two proposed changes to the Indiana Constitution at the end of your ballot. Don't skip them. Read them now so you can vote with confidence.

Question 1: Bail
This would let judges deny bail to people charged with serious crimes (beyond murder and treason) if the evidence of guilt is strong and the state proves no release conditions can keep the public safe.

Question 2: City and town court judges residency
Right now, city and town court judges must live in the city or town where their court is located. This would let them live anywhere in that county or in the closest neighboring county.

Lake County, mark your calendars! 🗳️

On Sunday, October 25, 2026, Lake County residents will have a special opportunity to cast their ballots early at all 11 early voting locations across the county. The Lake County Board of Elections has officially added Sunday voting for the 2026 General Election.

Lake County IDAAC is proud to help spread the word through Souls to the Polls, a community-wide effort focused on making sure people know when, where, and how they can vote.

⛪ Bring your congregation.
🕌 Bring your faith community.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Bring your family and neighbors.
🗳️ Most importantly, make sure your community has the information it needs.

While Souls to the Polls has deep roots in faith-based civic engagement, this event is open to everyone. All faiths. All communities. All are welcome.

Be informed at the ballot box on November 3.

This year, public question number 1 will be listed in the ballot. This suggested amendment to the Indiana Constitution would allow the courts to deny bail and hold an individual in jail before a conviction and before a trial for any offense.

🧡 WE WEATHERED THE STORM TOGETHER 🧡

Since the devastating August 11 storm, the Gary Chapter of The National Drifters, Inc. has been working behind the scenes to support members of our community who were impacted.

Whether serving together as a chapter, volunteering individually at donation drives, distributing needed supplies or simply answering the call to help, Gary Drifters rolled up our sleeves and got to work.

But we did not weather this storm alone.

First and foremost, thanks to our National President, Linda Carter McClure for reaching out to the chapter and then using our national platform to alert our Drifter sisters nationwide what was going on in the Northwest Indiana and South Suburbs or Chicago.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Indianapolis Drifters sisters, who made the drive north and donated more than 3,000 bottles of water to Gary schools, along with a generous financial contribution toward the purchase of batteries and battery-operated lights.

To our sisters of The Tallahassee Chapter of the Drifters, Incorporated, thank you for your gracious financial support and for reminding us that you, too, know what it means to weather the storms that can unexpectedly impact our communities.

To our SEPA Chapter sisters, thank you for your generous contributions and support.

To the The Greater Michigan City Chapter of the Drifters, Incorporated, thank you for the calls, concern and consideration you extended to us throughout this difficult time.

And to all of our Drifter sisters across the country, from coast to coast, who reached out, checked on us, offered assistance, made contributions and kept Northwest Indiana in your thoughts:

You reminded us that sisterhood is more than something we say. It is something we demonstrate through service, compassion and action.

When one community was hurting, our sisters showed up.

When our neighbors needed help, we rolled up our sleeves.
