Mayor Melton and the City of Gary is working with Lowe's Home Improvement to distribute free cleanup supplies to residents affected by recent storms. Supplies will be available beginning at 3 p.m., Monday, August 17, at the Hudson and Campbell Sports and Fitness Center. 455 Massachusetts Street, Gary, Indiana 46402, while supplies last.

The City of Gary has been granted use of a trailer mounted Oxygen Concentrator/Compressor unit. Our intent is to fill oxygen cylinders for home use patients affected by the storms of August 11th until power can be restored.

This oxygen fill station is open to all victims from the storms from all communities across District 1. The station will be staffed by our Gary Fire Department.

Starting: August 17, 2026

Time: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Requirements: Must Show ID | Limit - 3 Tanks Per Person

Mayor Eddie Melton Outlines Increased Security for NIPSCO Crews After Vehicle Struck by Gunfire.

"Let me be clear: this type of violence is absolutely unacceptable and will not be tolerated in the City of Gary," said Mayor Eddie Melton. "These crews are here for one reason—to help our residents and restore electricity to families who have already endured days without power."

This has been and extremely difficult week for our region. Tuesday’s storm has definitely been a trial of our faith. We are praying for everyone who has been impacted from Lake to Porter counties. Nearly half of the State of Indiana is under a state of emergency declaration.

Please share resources on temporary housing, home and vehicle insurance allowances, emergency food distribution, tree removal services, licensed electricians, water removal services, debris removal, generator safety, charging stations, etc.
