Important information for families:

Students should arrive at their bus stops or schools two hours later than their normal scheduled time.

Frankie Woods McCullough Academy now HAS POWER!!! McCullough students will REPORT TO MCCULLOUGH on a two-hour delay.

Bethune Early Childhood Center remains without power. Bethune Early Childhood students will not report to school on Monday.

All other GCSC students will report to their regular school buildings on a two-hour delay.

We understand that many families throughout Gary are still recovering from the unprecedented storm and derecho. We sincerely appreciate your patience, flexibility and resilience as our community continues moving forward.

We are excited to welcome our students back and restore a sense of learning, connection and normalcy. Please continue to stay safe and monitor district communications for additional updates.

Dear GCSC Scholars and Families,

As the storm aftermath continues to unfold, the Gary Community School Corporation will remain closed on Thursday, August 20th and Friday, August 21st.

We are awaiting full power restoration in all schools. Meanwhile, the assessment of our buildings continues, and our team has begun addressing repairs and safety concerns in preparation for a safe return.

It is our goal to have a better sense of a return date over the weekend.

We can't say this enough...thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support as we work through the impact of the storm.

We will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.

Dear GCSC Scholars and Families,

As we begin to regain power across our buildings, we are carefully assessing the needs and conditions of each facility. Our priority is to ensure that every building is safe and ready to occupy before welcoming students and staff back.

At this time, the Gary Community School Corporation will remain closed on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.

Our teams will continue working diligently to assess building conditions, address any safety concerns, and prepare our schools for a safe return.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support as we work through the impact of the storm. We will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.

Due to the continued power outage and storm‑related damage, school will not be in session on Monday, August 17th or Tuesday, August 18th. Safety remains our top priority, and we appreciate your patience as crews work to restore power and address building needs.
To support families during this time, we have donated our remaining food supplies to the YWCA of Northwest Indiana, which is available as a resource for anyone in need. We will also continue sharing food giveaways, community resources, and support opportunities across all of our communication platforms.
Thank you for your understanding. Please stay safe, stay connected, and look out for updates as we move forward together.
