AUG 13TH EVENT CANCELED.

Community Update

Due to the recent storm and widespread power outages throughout our community, we have made the decision to reschedule our event originally planned for Thursday, August 13th.

Please watch Facebook for details about our next Water Safety Social on Thursday, September 17th at 6:00 p.m. at St. Barnabas. Topic: Keeping our community safe. We are honored to welcome Dr. Bill Ramos as our guest speaker. A Miller native, Dr. Ramos, who also serves on the Water Safety Social Board, has traveled the world sharing his passion and knowledge for water safety. We look forward to an evening of learning, sharing, and connecting with our community.

In the meantime, our hearts are with everyone who has been affected by the storm. ❤️ Please take care of yourselves, check in on your neighbors, and lend a helping hand wherever you can.

This is what makes our community so special. In difficult times, we come together, look out for one another, and remind each other that we are never alone.

Stay safe, take care, and continue to look out for one another. We are grateful to call this caring community home.

🦺 Celebrating Our Heroes 🦺

We want to give a huge shout-out to the incredible lifeguarding team at Marquette Park and our surrounding beaches!

This summer, under the fantastic leadership of Mr. Jesse Thomas, our lifeguards demonstrated extraordinary commitment to keeping our community safe. They’ve already intervened in two active drownings—preventing what could have been tragedies and saving two lives. That’s what heroes do.

As part of our appreciation, the Miller Beach Water Safety Social Group recently presented gift cards to the team as a small token of our gratitude. But no gift card can truly measure the value of their dedication, training, and quick action when it matters most.

Our lifeguards are the frontline defenders of water safety at Miller Beaches. We support their efforts via the Life Jacket Loaner Program and community awareness and education efforts. Together, these programs promote safety for families and visitors and rescuers.

To Jesse and the entire lifeguarding team: Thank you. Your work saves lives. You are appreciated beyond measure. 🙏

And to our community: Let’s continue supporting the amazing people who keep us safe. The Best Day At The Beach Is A Safe Day At The Beach. ❤️🌊

If you’d like to support our lifeguarding team and water safety initiatives, consider becoming a sponsor or donating to the Miller Beach Water Safety Social Group. Reach out to us at mailto:[email protected].

🚲 Celebrating Ken Parr Build A Bike! 🚲

Miller Beach Water Safety Social was honored to recently volunteer alongside the incredible team Ken Parr Build-A-Bike Workshop — part of the Take Bike The Streets movement right here in our own Miller neighborhood. This program does so much more than fix bicycles: it’s community engagement, economic development, and intergenerational environmental education all rolled into one, giving neighbors of every age the chance to learn, fix, exchange, or receive a bike.

We want to take a moment to remember and honor Ken Parr — the program’s namesake and inspiration — whose spirit of generosity and community-building lives on in every bike that rolls out of that lot. Rest in peace, Ken. 🙏

And a huge thank you to Jessica Renslow, our local hero who has led this program for so many years with heart and dedication. Miller Beach is a better, more connected place because of your tireless work. 💛
How you can help: Build A Bike is always looking for bicycle donations (working or fixable!) and volunteer hours.

We need teen and adult bikes. Our volunteers can come pick them up. We are fine if they need some TLC. Folks can also drop them off at our 2 August workshops. Next one is on 8/8 10am-noon. All donations are a tax write off and the bikes will definitely be put to use. (We already gave away/ serviced 100 this year.) If you’ve got a bike gathering dust in your garage, consider giving it new life in the hands of a neighbor. Reach out to the Build A Bike team or drop by their next event to donate or volunteer!

🚲 Every bike donated helps keep our community rolling forward. 🚲

🚩 BEACH SAFETY ALERT 🚩
🗓️ Saturday 8/1/26 - Monday 8/3/26
📍Marquette Park and all Miller Beaches

Friends, before you head to the water this weekend please read this.

A Beach Hazards Statement is in effect for Lake and Porter Counties. High wave action and dangerous currents are expected along Lake Michigan, and swimming conditions could be 🚩life-threatening🚩, especially for inexperienced swimmers.

Here are some things you can do:

✅ Stay out of the water until conditions improve
✅ Avoid piers, jetties, breakwalls, and other shoreline structures
✅ Keep an eye on kids and pets near the shoreline
✅ Familiarize yourself with one of the many safety stations located along our shoreline

We know how much everyone loves being at the lake — we want you to come back and enjoy it again and again. A little caution today keeps the whole community safe.

🛟 Today is World Drowning Prevention Day — Unite to Turn the Tide 🛟

Drowning takes more than 300,000 lives a year worldwide — and almost a quarter of them are children under five, they are widely are preventable, and that’s why we honor the spirit of water safety.

Today is a day to remember why our life jacket loaner stations exist, why we hand out flyers with pizza boxes, why we teach kids the right way to wear a lifejacket at Fest in the First — small steps to promote a safe and fun beach community.

You can turn the tide too:

🦺 Grab a loaner life jacket before you swim
👀 Never take your eyes off kids near the water
🏊 Learn to recognize a rip current
🤝 Volunteer, sponsor a safety station, or just spread the word

The Best Day At The Beach Is A Safe Day At The Beach. Let’s make sure every day at Miller Beach is one. 💙
