🚨 MUTUAL AID ASSIST | STRUCTURE FIRE 🚨
​Early this morning, Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the Garrison Volunteer Fire Company was requested for mutual aid assistance by our neighbors at the Continental Village Vol. Fire Department for a reported structure fire at a commercial property on Bay View Road.

🚨 COMMUNITY SAFETY ADVISORY: FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT 🚨

Once again a Flood Watch has been issued for Putnam County in anticipation of heavy rain and thunderstorms.

​As storms move through our area, the Garrison Volunteer Fire Company urges all residents and drivers to exercise extreme caution:

​Turn Around, Don’t Drown: Water levels and flow rates can change in seconds, making it impossible to judge depth or road integrity beneath the surface. Most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles—rising or fast-moving water can sweep a car away or cause complete loss of control.

​Respect Barricades: NEVER drive around road closed signs or barricades. Even if water begins to recede, the underlying roadway or embankment may be severely compromised.

​Stay Out of Floodwaters: Avoid walking or wading through standing water. Floodwaters conceal serious hazards, including downed live electrical wires, sharp debris, raw sewage, dangerous chemicals, and displaced wildlife.

ROAD CLOSURE UPDATE: Route 9 at Putnam/Dutchess Line

​Drivers should expect Route 9 to remain closed at the Putnam/Dutchess county line. Severe storm washouts have caused significant road damage, completely tearing away sections of asphalt.

​🛑 Estimated Reopening: Friday, August 7th
Please note: This date is an estimate and subject to change depending on repair progress.

​Please plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time. Drive safely, and thank you for your patience while crews work to repair the road!

🚨 FLOOD WATCH ISSUED FOR PUTNAM COUNTY

​The Garrison Volunteer Fire Company is advising residents to prepare for heavy rainfall and potential localized flooding.

​According to the National Weather Service New York, NY and shared via the Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services, a Flood Watch has been issued for Tuesday morning untill 9pm Wednesday night across our region.

​🌧️ What to Expect
​Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected across the area. Rainfall rates could exceed 1 inch per hour at times, significantly increasing the risk of flash flooding.
​Potential hazards include:
​Flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas
​Rapidly rising small streams and creeks
​Water ponding on roadways
​Hazardous driving conditions during heavy rain downpours

​Note: A Flood Watch means conditions are favorable for flooding to develop—it does not mean flooding is guaranteed or actively occurring yet. Stay alert and monitor local conditions.

Joint Training & Extrication Drills

​Yesterday, the Garrison Volunteer Fire Company hosted a joint training session with Continental Village Vol. Fire Department.
​Members from both departments worked side-by-side to practice critical vehicle extrication techniques. Firefighters gained hands-on experience operating "Jaws of Life" rescue tools, practicing door pops, window removals, and other essential tactics used to safely free trapped occupants during motor vehicle accidents.

​A huge thank you to Castle Auto & Towing Inc. for generously donating the vehicles used in yesterday's drills. Community partnerships like this are vital in keeping our training realistic and our members prepared!
