GARRISON VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY RESPONDS TO FULLY INVOLVED BARN FIRE

GARRISON, NY – October 9, 2026 – On the evening of October 8th, at 7:44 PM, the Garrison Volunteer Fire Company was dispatched to a report of a fully involved barn fire located at 979 Old Albany Post Rd.

Upon arrival, fire personnel encountered heavy fire conditions, prompting the issuance of a 1st alarm and an immediate request for additional tankers to assist with water supply. Firefighters worked aggressively to contain the blaze, successfully protecting nearby structures and the surrounding forest from exposure.

The structure, which was being utilized as a workshop, was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no animals were present inside. We are relieved to report that there were no injuries to civilians or first responders during this incident.

A massive coordinated effort was required to bring the fire under control. Garrison Volunteer Fire Company units on the scene included:

15-2-1 Mini Attack Engine
15-4-1 Tanker
15-6-1 Rescue
15-8-3 Utility Truck (with additional manpower)
15-3-1 Brush Truck (with additional manpower)

All units were cleared and back in service by 10:58 PM.

Successful Open House!

What an incredible turnout for our Fall Open House this past Sunday! We want to send a huge thank you to everyone in the community who came out to our Fire Station to spend the afternoon with us. Seeing so many families, friends, and neighbors enjoying the firehouse makes all the preparation worth it.

​It was a packed day full of smiles and hands-on learning. Some of our favorite highlights included:

​Cruising in History: So many of you got to experience a hay ride on our pride and joy,
Our Antique 1929 Sanford fire engine.

​Meeting the Crew & Gear: Our firefighters had a fantastic time inside the bays doing demonstrations with our SCBA air packs and turnout gear along with fire extinguisherdemonstrations.

​Future Firefighters: The kids brought so much energy, especially when trying on the red and black fire helmets.

​Station Tours: We loved showing off the behind-the-scenes areas, including our organized turnout gear racks where we suit up for calls.

​Firehouse Cookout: A special shoutout to our crew on the grill for keeping everyone fed with fresh hot dogs and hamburgers.
​We are so grateful for the continued support of the Philipstown community. Stay safe, and we look forward to seeing you at our next event!

🚨 WEATHER ALERT: Severe Storm Expected Tomorrow Morning 🚨

​The Garrison Volunteer Fire Company is urging all residents to prepare for the nor'easter expected to move into our area tomorrow morning. With heavy rain and strong wind gusts in the forecast, we want to ensure everyone in our community stays safe and prepared.

​Please keep the following safety tips in mind:

​Secure Loose Items: Bring in or tie down patio furniture, garbage cans, and any outdoor objects that could become projectiles in high winds.

​Assume All Downed Lines are Live: Never approach or touch a downed power line. If you see a downed wire, stay far away and report it immediately.

​Prepare for Power Outages: Make sure your cell phones are fully charged tonight. Locate your flashlights and ensure you have fresh batteries on hand.

​Generator Safety: If you lose power and need to use a generator, NEVER operate it indoors, in a basement, or in an enclosed garage. Keep it outside and well away from windows and doors to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.

​Travel Cautiously: If you must be on the roads tomorrow, take it slow and leave extra following distance. Never attempt to drive through flooded roadways—turn around, don't drown.

Today, the members of the Garrison Volunteer Fire Company pause to remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and the thousands of innocent lives lost.

​Twenty-five years ago, when others were running out, our fellow first responders ran in. We honor the 343 FDNY firefighters and the courageous law enforcement, paramedics and EMS personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice on that fateful day. We also solemnly remember the thousands of responders, recovery workers, and survivors who have lost their lives in the years since to 9/11-related illnesses. Their unparalleled bravery, selflessness, and dedication represent the absolute best of public service.

​To the families left behind, and to all who continue to feel the weight of that day, our thoughts and prayers remain with you. We proudly carry their collective legacy forward in everything we do, and we continue to stand the watch.
