Rock Creek Cats

Rock Creek Cats Rock Creek Cats (www.rockcreekcats.org) is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization dedicated to helping less fortunate felines in the D.C. area.

When we come across cats who are good candidates for adoption, we get appropriate veterinary care for them and foster them until they are placed in loving, permanent homes. Adoptable cats can be viewed on our website, www.rockcreekcats.org.

DECEASED KITTEN – Capitol Heights
Sad news. We found a severely injured kitten this morning in the middle of the road in front of the Shady Glen Fire Station on Shady Glen Drive in Capitol Heights. We drove him to an emergency veterinary hospital, but, unfortunately, he passed away before he could be treated for his injuries. We wish he had a happier outcome, but at least he is no longer suffering. He is white with black markings and is not microchipped. RIP, little kitty.

ADOPT STATLER & WALDORF!
We’re Statler and Waldorf -- brothers and buddies. We were born to a feral mom in Silver Spring, but we're not feral at all. We love being petted and held by people, and Waldorf recently discovered he likes rubbing against human legs and walking into an open refrigerator. Statler seems to prefer walking on a computer keyboard. Statler was born with a condition called megaesophagus, which means he sometimes has trouble holding down his food, especially the wet kind, so he needs a special kind of adopter. We would prefer staying together, as we are partners in exploring and playing. We were both neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, so we're ready for our forever home.

HELPING ARTHUR
When we do trap-neuter-return (TNR) of feral cats, the kitties sometimes need more than just basic TNR. Take Arthur. We recently trapped him at his outdoor environment in Silver Spring to get him neutered, vaccinated and microchipped, but it turned out he also needed treatment for a mouth full of bloody gums and rotten teeth. He’s now recovering from a dental procedure that we arranged and funded. He’s not thrilled about being confined in a strange place and being away from his buddies and usual caregiver, but he will live a much better life when he returns to his colony.

Over the past three weeks, Rock Creek Cats trapped or picked up 25 outdoor and indoor cats from multiple locations in Langley Park and Silver Spring and got them spayed/neutered and vaccinated. Thank you to the Maryland Department of Agriculture for covering some of the surgeries.

HELPING GLENDA
Glenda, an outdoor cat we’ve been feeding in Wheaton for years, showed up one day with heavy drool coming from her mouth and dark discharge coming from her nose. We weren’t sure what was going on, so we rushed her to a vet, where we learned she had torn her tongue somehow (ouch!). After receiving pain medicine and “bed rest,” Glenda’s tongue healed up nicely, and her mouth and nose cleared up as well. She made it clear she wasn’t ready for indoor life, so she’s back to living with her outdoor buddies and eagerly awaiting her daily feedings. She acts like nothing happened at all.
