Summer is a great time for families to get ahead of sports physicals, annual visits, vaccines, and school or camp forms.

For practices, early outreach can help avoid the late-summer rush and make sure children have time to complete needed visits before school, sports, and activities begin.

Annual visits are also a chance to check in on growth, development, medications, chronic conditions, and any concerns families may have.

A little planning in June can make August easier.

Preventive care can be easy to miss when life gets busy and appointments are focused on immediate needs.

That is why proactive outreach is so important. It helps practices identify patients who may be overdue for screenings, follow-up visits, immunizations, or other preventive care before those needs become harder to address.

Common missed opportunities can include colorectal cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, breast cancer screening, A1c testing, blood pressure follow-up, and annual wellness visits, depending on the patient.

Earlier outreach can help patients stay connected to care and address health concerns sooner.

Sometimes memory or cognitive concerns first show up in everyday moments: missed medications, repeated questions, or changes family members start to notice over time.

During Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, it is a reminder that early conversations matter. Primary care teams can help patients and families navigate next steps, connect to support, and make sure care stays coordinated around a person’s needs.
