🏈 SCOUTING REPORT: Zucchini Ink

We've encountered some unusual staffing arrangements during this scouting season, but Zucchini Ink may have just taken the lead.

Two cats. One dog. And a Chief Executive Octopus.

Apparently Wendy reports to an octopus whose primary responsibilities include snack inventory and keeping her on task.

We're not even going to ask about the benefits package. 😂

Zucchini Ink has been helping small businesses look the part since 2020, but Wendy brings 20 years of experience in design and print to the game.

And that's an important distinction.

She's not just a designer who hands you a file and wishes you luck. And she's not just a printer who expects you to show up knowing exactly what you need.

She does both.

Business cards, signs, banners, window graphics and all those weirdly specific print jobs that come with running a business. Wendy knows how to make things look good AND how to make sure they'll actually work once they're produced.

She's also pretty good at remembering her customers.

One of the things she hears most is that the second call to Wendy is the easiest. She already knows their brand, so the next project doesn't require starting from scratch.

And while everybody seems obsessed with digital marketing these days, Wendy would like to remind the scouting department of something:

Print isn't dead.

There's still something pretty powerful about putting your business directly into someone's hands.

But the part of this story we especially love is what Wendy says keeps her doing it.

It's that moment when a business owner sees their finished product for the first time. The new sign. The business cards. The window graphics. That look on their face when something they've been building suddenly feels a little more real.

For Wendy, that's the payoff.

And with 20 years of experience, six years running her own business, and an unreasonable amount of vinyl in the building, we'd say she's got a pretty solid playbook.

🏈 SCOUTING REPORT: Olde Cabin Construction LLC

We've reviewed a lot of impressive stats this season, but Olde Cabin Construction submitted one that's going to be pretty hard to beat.

ZERO customers lied to.

That's their number. And they're sticking to it.

Founded in 2023, Olde Cabin Construction is a family- and veteran-owned business run by husband-and-wife team Craig and Samantha.

And when they say you're dealing directly with the owners, they mean it.

Craig is the one you'll typically meet face-to-face on a project, while Samantha keeps things moving behind the scenes, answering messages and making sure customers aren't left wondering what's going on.

Their game plan is pretty simple: respond quickly, tell people the truth and treat them like family. Even when someone doesn't end up hiring them, they're still willing to offer guidance and help.

And here's something you might not know about their roster of services: they install windows, too!

But our favorite discovery from this scouting report might be the story behind their logo.

The cabin represents the family's vacation getaway. The mountains reflect their love of visiting them. The green trees represent their love of nature AND their son's favorite color. And the white roof? Snow, of course.

Turns out even the logo is a family project.

They're also juggling something else while running this business: homeschooling their son.

So when they say they'll do their best to squeeze a customer into the schedule, that sometimes means finding a little room between construction projects, running a business and teaching school.

And through the tough seasons that come with building a young business, they've kept showing up and working together.
