Today we had a planned outing to the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center - Texas Parks and Wildlife for our Cub Scouts and their families. We spent the day touring the visitor center, took a tram ride tour to learn about the hatcheries and outdoor tanks, walked along The Wetlands trails where we encountered several different creatures, watched as they fed the fish in the theater aquarium, and did some fishing in the Zebco pond where we caught plenty of Catfish..

Last night we had our final awards and move up ceremony for our Scouts. 7 ranks, 74 adventures, and 10 special awards went out to our Scouts. They each then received the markings of their den and were presented with their new neckerchiefs, neckerchief slides, and handbooks for their next Den and Rank.

Tonight was our fishing themed night. Scouts worked with buddies as they rotated through a series of 6 stations this evening. They got to fish out the Scout Law at station 1, station 2 was all about learning to identify Freshwater Fish and how to properly hold them, station 3 was knot tying where Scouts got to learn and practice the improved clinch knot and the palomar knot. Station 4 had them testing their reflexes with a game of Shark Bite while station 5 was all about learning what gear you need for fishing, and station 6 had them casting their lines with some Backyard Bass. At the end scouts then got to celebrate with a snacklebox and a gift from our friends over at 4 to 4 Ever, Inc.

It was a fun night and we had the privilege of welcoming 2 new scouts to our family.

We started off the evening with our bike rodeo in the parking lot. Then the rain moved in and we quickly picked everything up and moved it all indoors. What began as our bike rodeo turned into an indoor scooter rodeo. In the end we still had Scouts on Wheels and everyone had fun.

This evening we took a 1-mile hike on the Duck Creek Trail and ended the evening playing on the playground. Was it wet? Yep. Did we still have fun? Absolutely! Who doesn’t like being able to splash through the puddles on a cool evening?!

Over the past month we have had two campouts and a garage sale canceled due to the spring storms, we weren’t going to let today’s showers ruin our evening.

Tonight was Science Night for our pack. Due to an unexpected issue we ended up hosting our meeting outside in the parking lot. The kids had a blast going from station to station. We made lava lamps, rainbow in a cup, experimented with eggs, built bridges using marshmallows and pretzels, observed specimens using a magnifying glass and handheld microscope, used static electricity to race soda cans, and launched rockets.

Tuesday night was all about kitchen safety and completing the Chef Tech adventure with our Bear den. After going over some basic kitchen safety and discussing how to safely use a microwave all of our Scouts had the opportunity to make their own cup of macaroni and cheese. For many, this may seem like a mundane task or unimportant, but from our littlest lion to our oldest Webelos, kitchen safety and knowledge is a must. For some, this is the first steps into learning some independence in the kitchen and beginning to teach them to plan meals and cook together. Even our Lion with some supervision and guidance was able to do his own.

Our pack hosted our Blue & Gold ceremony and AOL crossover on Tuesday, February 24th. We celebrated as our three AOL Scouts graduated our Cub Scout program and took their first steps to joining Troop 138 - Mesquite, TX. In addition to our AOL Scouts we also crossed over our AOL den leader, Mr Avitia to troop as well where he will continue his duties as a leader in the position of Assistant Scoutmaster.

We are grateful for the leadership that Mr Avitia has provided to our Scouts this year and we are proud of the Scouts for a job well done. We know that you all have many more adventures ahead of you and we know that your light will add to the light of your troop. We can’t wait to see what each of you accomplishes.
