Turning compassion into action. đź’›
We’re deeply moved by this family’s words and by the generosity of Tony and Kay NesSmith and their foundation, whose gift—alongside Resistol’s Cowboys Who Care Foundation—is helping Lily take a major step toward life-changing treatment in Italy.

The NesSmiths created their foundation in memory of their son, Cody, whose spirit continues to shine through every child helped in his honor. This act of kindness reminds us all that love can outlast loss and that hope can be the most powerful legacy of all.

Thank you to everyone who continues to give, believe, and make moments like this possible. 🤠💛

Today, I want to thank Mr. Tony NesSmith, his wife Mrs. Kay NesSmith and their foundation
& Resistols Cowboys foundation for a gift that will forever change Lily’s life and help make her medical journey to Italy possible.

Words truly fall short when trying to express the gratitude that we feel.

The NesSmiths foundation was created in honor of their son, Cody, who was taken far too soon by childhood cancer. And yet, even though their son is no longer here with us physically, his life is still making an impact in this world — helping children, bringing hope, changing lives and the future of our children.

Because of that beautiful legacy, Lily is one step closer to the care she desperately needs in Italy.

Thank you for turning loss into love, grief into purpose, and remembrance into action.

Your son is still shining through every child you help and our family will carry that with us forever.

I won’t be sharing the amount, but please know it’s going directly toward Lily’s medical care. As we’ve gone deeper into this process, we’ve realized the total cost is more than we first expected, so this won’t be added to her GoFundMe total.

Mr. & Mrs. NesSmith, Resistol Cowboys …

From the bottom of our hearts… thank you. 🤍

Meet Lily. In just five years, she’s been under anesthesia 25 times fighting a venous malformation, and she keeps smiling. Her family shared this update: “There are truly no words… You guys are one of God’s angels.” With treatment in Italy ahead, two procedures, and maybe one more years down the road, there’s real hope for VM‑FREE. We’re humbled to play a small part in her journey. Please keep Lily and her family in your prayers. 💛🤠 Lily’s Journey with Venous Malformation

Remembering Kaedyn “KK” Layne Nelson 💛🤠

August 6, 2008 – October 5, 2025

This week, the East Texas and rodeo community lost one of its brightest lights. Kaedyn “KK” Nelson, just 17 years old, lived a life full of courage, faith, and joy, qualities that inspired everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

KK grew up in Woden, Texas, surrounded by family, faith, and the western way of life she loved. She had a boundless energy and an infectious spirit, whether cheering for her school, running cross country, participating in Extreme Cheer, or serving the community through the Pineywoods Fair Youth Ambassadors Program, KK left a mark wherever she went.

Her faith was at the center of her life. Church and church camp were her happy places, where she grew closer to God and shared her light with others. At just 10 years old, KK faced one of life’s greatest challenges: a diagnosis of rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of cancer. She faced her treatment with incredible courage and grace. In 2019, KK was declared cancer-free, a moment of triumph and hope celebrated by her family, friends, and all who had followed her journey.

During her battle, Resistol’s Cowboys Who Care presented KK with a cowboy hat at the Nacogdoches Pro Rodeo and prayed over her, a gesture she cherished deeply. That hat was more than just a gift; it was a symbol of hope, love, and community. It inspired her dream to give back, leading her to aspire to become a Child Life Specialist and work in the very hospital that helped save her life.

Tragically, KK’s life was cut short on October 5, 2025, in an ATV accident. Though she is no longer with us, her courage, faith, and love continue to shine through her family, friends, and community. KK taught us what it means to live boldly, love deeply, and never take a single moment for granted.

In honor of KK, her family requests that donations be made to Resistol’s Cowboys Who Care, the organization that once gave her a hat, a prayer, and a reminder that she was never alone.

Checks can be made payable and mailed to:

KK, we will miss your light, your laughter, and your heart. Thank you for showing us the true meaning of courage, faith, and love. đź’›
