A few days ago, Sean and I were stopping by some local businesses and ended up walking into juice, where we met the owner, Prince. Great guy. We got into a real conversation about nutrition and how important it is, especially for our kids. He let us try a few of the juices and honestly, they were really good. Definitely a spot we’ll be going back to.

It got me thinking though, nutrition is something we don’t talk about enough when it comes to our children. What they’re eating every day affects how they feel, how they focus in school, and their overall health. If we want our kids to succeed, it starts with making sure they’re fueled the right way.

That’s why places like this matter. Supporting local businesses that are actually pushing healthier options helps all of us. It gives families better choices and helps build a stronger, healthier community at the same time.

Small stops like this turn into bigger ideas. And that’s how real change starts.

Garfield deserves health!!

Let’s talk about bullying

04/13/2026

Bullying isn’t just something that happens in school it’s something that can shape a child’s confidence, safety, and future.
As a Board of Education member and a parent, this is personal to me. We need to be proactive, not reactive. That means teaching respect and empathy early, giving students safe and anonymous ways to report issues, and making sure our staff is fully trained to step in and handle situations the right way. It also means addressing cyberbullying, because today it doesn’t stop when the school day ends. But just as important we need to support our kids. Not just discipline, but guidance, accountability, and real solutions. Every child deserves to feel safe, included, and respected in our schools. That’s the standard we should all expect.

Proper facility maintenance is one of those quiet responsibilities that only gets noticed when it is neglected. This past brutal winter was a perfect example. When aging blowers and antiquated boilers are not replaced or serviced in time, failures do not happen one at a time like polite dominoes. They collapse all at once, leaving schools scrambling in freezing conditions, disrupting students, staff, and families.

Preventive maintenance is not glamorous, but it is essential. Waiting until equipment reaches the breaking point costs far more in emergency repairs, downtime, and hardship than planning ahead for upgrades and replacements. Our schools deserve infrastructure that is reliable, safe, and ready for the demands of every season. Investing in maintenance today prevents crises tomorrow. Garfield deserves better

The future of education must include the skilled trades.

College is not the only path to success, and Garfield students deserve opportunities that prepare them for real, high-demand careers like plumbing, electrical work, welding, mechanics, and more. These are careers that will always be needed and can lead directly to stable, rewarding futures.

Our team believes in bringing trade programs into Garfield schools so our students can graduate with practical skills and career-ready experience. By expanding these programs, we can keep more students in district, save taxpayer money, and even create adult night school trade classes that generate new revenue for our schools.

We are the Boilermakers. It’s time we live up to that name and build a stronger future for Garfield.

Vote GABA • DIAZ • BREONTE • REDZIO on April 21st.
