We have some VERY sick cats.

They have a very highly contagious viral infection, called calicivirus,
that causes upper respiratory symptoms, as well as very painful ulcers in the mouth. Which makes it almost impossible to eat.

What does this mean for us?

Big vet bills, and nonstop sterilizing. Over and over.

We are in desperate need of Rescue which kills this virus!!

Until we get these cats all cleared, we are closing intake so that there is no accidental cross contamination.

We’re hosting a FREE Kitten Bottle Feeding Class at the shelter! ❤️

This year, we have taken in a HUGE number of newborn and neonate kittens — many of whom arrive without a mom. And while our staff will always do everything we can, there are only so many bottles we can hold and so many hours in the day. 😅

That’s where YOU come in.

We want to build a team of foster families who feel confident caring for these teeny-tiny babies when they need a helping hand.

At our class, we’ll teach you everything you need to know about caring for and bottle feeding orphaned newborn kittens, including:

🍼 How to properly prepare and administer formula
🐾 Proper feeding techniques and positioning
⏰ Understanding feeding schedules
🌡️ Keeping newborn kittens warm and safe
💩 Helping kittens with elimination
⚖️ Monitoring weight and recognizing healthy growth
🚨 Warning signs that mean a kitten needs veterinary attention
❤️ And all the little tricks that make caring for bottle babies a little easier

You don’t need experience. You don’t need to be an expert. You just need a willingness to learn and a heart big enough to help a tiny kitten.

The class is FREE and is open to anyone interested in becoming a kitten foster.

Because sometimes, the difference between a newborn kitten making it and not making it is simply having someone willing to get up every few hours and say…

“Okay, little one. It’s bottle time.” 🍼❤️

Your new best friend is waiting just around the corner! We have so many cats looking for their forever homes, and even more cats in need of our help before they’re ready for their forever homes.

We need help to continue our mission to save every kitty we can, so our adoption fees have gone up to $100. Every dollar goes right back into our rescue efforts, whether through adoptions or donations!

We do love a glow up!

It just makes us happy. And we NEED these happy stories.

And when these stories include a a handsome cat with a bowtie and a precious little girl with a handwritten contract for the adopter.

I just want to squeal.
And, yes, I did in fact squeal. 

Handsome came in with severe mycoplasma and anemia. He couldn’t hold his head up on his own.

Five weeks later, this boy is living his best life thanks to amazing vet care by Fayetteville Veterinary Medical Center and a lot of love!!

Wilson Zoo Cat Crimes

But which is worse?

1) I leave a glass of water unattended. (Stupid I know) My cat makes DIRECT eyes contact before she dips her dirty paw in.

2) I am a proud plant momma. Then I come in to find one dug up so it could be used as a litter box.

3) Doesn’t everyone have a cat that likes to steal food from small children and make them cry? No?!

4) I always have a puzzle in progress. Explain to me why that is their FAVORITE place to vomit?

And NO- they are never sorry!

Do you know what can bring pure terror into the heart of a cat rescuer?

Realizing that these three boxes contain the LAST of the litter. 🫣

This will easily be used within the next 24 hours along with more that I will have to go get tomorrow.

Please help us build our supply back up so that we’re not in crisis mode all the time.

🖤 Happy Black Cat Appreciation Day! 🐾

Meet Diesel! He has had a bit of a rough start on his journey with us at Wilson Zoo, but he hasn’t let that get him down! This pretty kitty came to us in rough shape, and thanks to our friends at Fayetteville Veterinary Medical Center, he is recovering great and will be available for adoption soon!

While he isn’t available for adoption yet, be sure to be on the lookout for him soon because we know his sweet personality will capture everyone’s hearts!
