Hope Ignites Northeastern Ohio 40 years of nurturing and guiding motivated young people to become well-educated, career-ready men and women for others.

Hope Ignites Northeastern Ohio (Formerly Boys Hope Girls Hope) was founded in 1986 to help students from disadvantaged backgrounds succeed in school and life. Our mission is to help academically capable and motivated children in need to meet their full potential and become young men and women for others by providing value-centered, family-like homes, opportunities, and education through college. O

ur affiliate shares a common mission with 14 U.S. and 3 Latin American cities while utilizing structured programming adapted to the needs of each community, unique curriculum, and partnerships with local schools and universities. Service ‘pathways’ include residential homes for up to 18 Scholars; intensive year-round, out-of-school time programming for 150+ community-based Scholars in 6th-12th grade; and post-secondary advising and scholarship support through career launch for 70+ Scholars who have graduated our program and are currently enrolled in college or other post-secondary program.

Earlier this month volunteers from KeyBank's Neighbors Make the Difference Day and Higley Construction rolled up their sleeves to help prepare our campus for summer programming! From landscaping projects that beautified our grounds to making our scholars' favorite breakfast burritos, their support helped ensure we were ready to welcome students for a great summer.

Forty years ago, a powerful mission came to Northeastern Ohio: every young person deserves someone in their corner — someone who believes in them, challenges them, and walks alongside them as they build their future.

Since then, our organization has grown from serving just a handful of Scholars in 1986 to impacting hundreds across Cleveland and Akron today. Scholars are achieving their academic goals, growing as leaders, and building the confidence to pursue prosperous futures.

As we celebrate forty years, we are deeply grateful for the role you have played in making hope possible. When you give today, you help ensure that young people have access to the guidance and experiences that change the trajectory of their lives — over the next forty years and beyond.

For our campaign, we are proud to spotlight Raylyn Trice, a Scholar whose journey embodies the determination, growth, and lifelong impact of Hope Ignites Northeastern Ohio.

Recruited into the program as a sixth grader from Akron, Raylyn was part of the very first Academy class, graduating in 2014. 🎓 Throughout her time as a Scholar and alumna, she has continually embraced opportunities to grow, lead, and give back. From working within both the Residential and Academy programs to serving on our Associate Board and attending HopeNet events, Raylyn has remained deeply connected to the organization over the years. She also became the second alum to receive the Pillar of Hope award at Evening of Hope in 2023. 🏆

Raylyn’s story is one of grit, ambition, service, and joy — someone who worked hard, embraced new experiences, and helped shape Hope Ignites NEO into what it is today.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Daniel Sussen, a longtime Board Treasurer and Emeritus Board Member of Hope Ignites Northeastern Ohio who faithfully supported our mission since 2003.

Dan will be remembered for his kindness, humor, generosity, and deep belief in the power of education and community. We are profoundly grateful for the lasting impact he made on our organization and in the lives of so many young people.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Lois, and the Sussen family during this time.
