Last week, the Brewer Center traveled to Washington, D.C. with 11 students for an immersive civic learning experience exploring history, government, culture, and community.
Together, we visited the U.S. Capitol, The People’s House, Georgetown, the National Mall, and several Smithsonian museums, including the National Museum of African American History & Culture, the National Museum of the American Indian, and the National Portrait Gallery. We spent our evenings walking among the memorials and our days engaging with the stories, people, and institutions that continue to shape our nation.
A special thank you to Mamadu Tchamo from the office of Congressman Jim McGovern, who went above and beyond to provide our group with an incredible tour of the U.S. Capitol. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and generosity made a lasting impact on our students, and we are so grateful for the experience he created for us.
As one student reflected:
“This trip is 100% a powerful week to boost everyone’s flame of civic engagement.”
Experiences like these help students see civic engagement not just as something they learn about, but something they can actively participate in. We are grateful for the opportunity to learn, explore, and grow together.
