Happy spring equinox, everyone! Our streak of forward progress with the community center has continued since our winter dispatch went out in December, so it's time to share some exciting updates. Check out our full message for details. >> https://tinyurl.com/3bhrcap3

Some highlights from our spring newsletter:
🏗️ Demo contractors have come and gone and the community center is just about ready for our general contractor to start the long-awaited stabilization work.

💥 Momentum with the project is making it possible to go back to some of the funders who've expressed support of the project from the outset, but have been more interested in funding the interior work, which is going to be a lot more exciting for all of us!

👀 Take a look at the direction we're headed with the interior, complete with some renderings of what the upper level could look like when all is said and done (minus the dude ranch dress-up and unnaturally good posture of the building's alternate universe occupants...you'll see what we mean when you see the images).

📚 We're on the hunt for stories! If you have a story, a photo, or some physical memorabilia with a connection to the community center to share, or a suggestion for somebody we ought to sit down with for an oral history, we’d love to hear from you. Learn more about what we're looking for to recognize the building's first 100+ years while we bring it into the future.

Keep an eye on our page for more updates and photos of the next phase of the restoration work as it unfolds!

We are seeking local contractors and trades professionals who are interested in helping us complete the Community Center renovation project. It is important to us to keep the funding raised through local volunteer efforts as local as possible. Thank you to everyone who has reached out so far!

We are searching for a project manager, a general contractor, and/or qualified sub-contractors who understand our mission and will help us successfully complete the renovation.

If you are interested in finding out more about this project and potentially being a part of the community effort to revitalize the historic building, please contact:
Dennis McIntosh, Greater Gardiner Community Council President, 406-224-5982, [email protected] The GGCC will remain the owner’s representative throughout the renovation.

The Gardiner Community Center was built in 1910, originally as the Gardiner Opera House and later called the Eagles Hall. It has been the cornerstone for community events and local lives for 115 years. Our goal is to give the building another 100 years.

Demo at the Gardiner Community Center is nearly done. Here’s a few (bad) pics of what it currently looks like.

There were a few small surprises waiting for us behind the walls, but that’s the nature of rehabilitating a 100 year old building. The demo has allowed our structural engineers and architects to finally see exactly what we’re working with, and we’re excited for the next step of starting to put it back together. We don’t currently have a timeline for this, but will post again when we know more.

A huge thank you again to all of the volunteers that helped us move everything out of the Community Center and with some more demo this weekend. We appreciate you!
The professional demo crew will start to arrive this Friday, 1/16/2026 and demo of all of the non-original walls of the building should be fully underway early next week. We expect the demo crew to be here for roughly two(ish) weeks.

We have more fun opportunities to volunteer this weekend!

Gym equipment will be moving; please email Clay ([email protected]) for more details on how to get in a good workout while lending a helping hand.

Sunday, 1/11 from 8am - 12 pm will be moving day for the few things left in the building (tables, chairs, other small things) and some light demo work. No experience or skills needed, however, small children still aren’t recommended due to the 100 years of dust, dirt, and p**p we set free last weekend.

No need to commit to the full four hours on Sunday, stop by for however long you have to lend a hand. Wear warm clothes, and if you have gloves, eye protection, and a mask please bring them (if you don’t we will provide them). Basic tools (hammer, drill/impact driver/crowbar/etc.) may also be helpful if you have them and would prefer demo work vs. moving. Bonus if you also bring a truck/large vehicle to help haul things to the storage container (at rodeo grounds) and to the dump.

If you’re not able to physically lend a hand, please stop by to check out the pile of free stuff - which still includes nearly enough insulation for a small house, and all sorts of other random things. The doors to the upstairs are unlocked, so you can scavenge through the pile at your convience or see some of the original parts of the building we’ve uncovered.

We hope to see you this weekend at one (or both) of our community center’s fun days.

Please help us rehome leftovers from the Gardiner Community Center as demolition of the building is underway! Insulation, doors, windows, ceiling tiles, and other building materials free for the taking in addition to a pantry/armoir, pots and pans, bolts, and other odds and ends. Doors to the upstairs will remain unlocked and the community free pile is on the right as soon as you enter. Nonprofits- we have set aside useful cleaning and fundraising items. Your corner is on the left and marked as such with a phone number to call Becky for clearance. Thank you and UHaul!

It’s finally time to raise the ceiling in the Gardiner Community Center.
To kick off the building’s renovation we’re hosting a volunteer day this Saturday, January 3rd, from 8 am-noon. We will pull down the upstairs drop ceiling. No experience or skills needed, however, small children aren’t recommended due to the fiberglass insulation that we will be handling. No need to commit to the full four hours, stop by for however long you have to lend a hand. Wear warm clothes, and if you have gloves, eye protection, and a mask please bring them, and if you don’t we will provide it.
If you’re not able to physically lend a hand, please stop by to check out the growing pile of free stuff - building materials and all sorts of other random stuff - including all of the insulation in the drop ceiling. We’d love to keep as much of the building out of the landfill as possible!
We’ll miss you if you can’t make it this Saturday, but there will be more opportunities to volunteer soon when moving day comes, so stay tuned.

Happy winter solstice, everyone!

We have some big news (finally) to share about the community center in our latest seasonal update. Find some key dates below and visit the full message for more details, links, and how to get in touch if you have questions or would like to pitch in with some pre-demo work. >> https://tinyurl.com/45jc7ywz

🗓️ December 31 - The community center (both upstairs and the gym) will be closing to get the place cleared out for contractors.

🗓️ January 2 - Gym equipment will be migrating across town to its temporary location, Juniper Studio (aka, Bill and Loretta Chapman’s old place behind the Super 8 hotel).

🗓️ January 3 - Gym will be up and running in its temporary home for 2026.

🗓️ January 15 - Demolition will start after this date.

Stay tuned for more info about the forthcoming stabilization work, the most disruptive part of which we hope to have done before the busy season so we can minimize the burden of having contractors working on Main Street.

🦉 A big thank you to all who supported Gardiner/Mammoth nonprofits during GIVE A HOOT back in July. It was a banner year for many organizations serving our end of Park County, including GGCC. Between community giving and this year’s matching pool, the 2025 edition of this month-long campaign raised over $15,800 for our efforts to restore the Gardiner Community Center.

👷 A project update on the community center as we explore taking a different approach to the stabilization work—specifically the vertical concrete work that has been challenging to attract a contractor with. We hope we have more news and forward progress to show for this step in a different direction soon. In the meantime, we're still welcoming any volunteers interested in helping us demolish the drop ceiling before any construction commences.

🧙‍♀️ ☃️🎄 Be part of a fun activity in time for spooky season and stay tuned for the details, dates, and locations for some beloved annual December traditions in Gardiner. More activities are probably in the works in and around the community center and our Main/Park Street corridor, but our snapshot is a good starting place for events to get on your calendar.
