Anissa Michelle Guerrero was born on May 12, 2000 to parents Ana Ramirez and Cesar Guerrero. She is the youngest of their two daughters. Throughout her life, Anissa had a variety of health issues. She was asthmatic and by kindergarten she needed hearing aids. None of this stopped her. Anissa had many friends, was an excellent student, and was an athlete. She played soccer for 8 years. Before start
ing her last season, she told her dad that she would play only if he coached the team. So he did and that year they won the championship. Once Anissa entered middle school, she joined Students Run L.A. Anissa trained for 6 months to run the L.A. Marathon and completed the 2014 Marathon at 13 years old. Anissa continued to run and got first place in her division at a race in Mammoth. Shortly after that race, she felt a pain in her leg which she thought was just a strained muscle. After a visit to the doctor, we knew it was going to be difficult to identify what the problem was. After countless scans and doctor visits, on November 18, 2014, she was diagnosed with stage 4 osteosarcoma located on the left side of her pelvic bone. This news did not alter her spirits. Anissa remained full of life and full of smiles. Throughout her process, she dealt with surgeries, treatment, and hospitalization. This gave Anissa the opportunity to witness children and families who are less fortunate. The legacy she wants to leave behind is of her helping others and to bring awareness to childhood cancer. She knew and understood that everyone is vulnerable to this disease. Help us continue her legacy. We have created this organization to help the children and their families that we have met throughout this journey, as well as to raise awareness on childhood cancer.
