🌺 AANHPI Heritage Month 🌏
Theme: Power in Unity: Strengthening Communities Together

May is Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month!
As Vietnamese youth, we recognize this month as a time to honor our shared histories, uplift our diverse cultures, and stand in solidarity with AANHPI communities across generations.

Our community is rooted in stories of resilience — from refugee journeys to rebuilding in places like Little Saigon. But our strength has never existed in isolation. It comes from unity: supporting one another, building coalitions, and creating spaces where every voice is heard. AANHPI Heritage Month reminds us that when we come together, we are stronger, louder, and more impactful.

That same spirit comes alive through our International Night and Culture Night performances. From traditional dances to modern showcases, each performance reflects the richness of our identities while bringing communities together on one stage. These moments aren’t just celebrations — they are expressions of shared history, pride, and connection. Through movement, music, and storytelling, we honor where we come from while standing in solidarity with one another.
Together, these performances embody the theme: Power in Unity: Strengthening Communities Together — reminding us that our differences are our strength, and our unity is our power.

As the next generation, we carry the responsibility to not only honor our roots but to strengthen our communities through unity, compassion, and collective action.

April 30th,1975, a day known in the Vietnamese community as Black April. On this day in 1975, Saigon fell to Communist North Vietnam, marking the end of the Vietnam War and forcing over 2 million Southern Vietnamese to flee their homeland. Many of our families began their journeys as refugees on this day—stories of resilience, loss, and hope that have shaped the Vietnamese American experience.

This year marks the 51st anniversary of the Fall of Saigon. It's not just a moment of remembrance—it's a powerful reminder of our community's strength and the importance of preserving our stories. As a community, we should not only commemorate this milestone but also celebrate the success and achievements of our Vietnamese diaspora around the world.

As VAHSA Executive Board, we encourage everyone to learn more about this history, reflect on your family’s journey, and take pride in your roots. Together, we can continue building and sharing our Vietnamese diaspora narrative for future generations.
