One year ago today, on October 16, 2025, we lost U.S. Marine Corps Maj. Tyler R. "Jabroni" Braconi, 35, an AH-1Z Viper pilot and operations officer with Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron (HMLA) 369, the "Gunfighters," Marine Aircraft Group 39, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, based at Marine Corps Air Station Camp Pendleton.

Tyler was killed when his two-seat helicopter went down near Imperial Gables, about 36 miles north of Yuma, Arizona, while he was flying in the Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course hosted at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma.

A hometown son, Tyler grew up in San Clemente and Ladera Ranch and graduated from Tesoro High School in 2008. Later he was selected for a competitive exchange program and spent four years serving in Australia. There he built lasting bonds with service members from allied nations, friendships so strong that representatives from militaries across the world came to honor him at his memorial.

Today we remember a pilot, a leader, and a friend whose impact reached far beyond our shores. We hold his family and fellow Marines close in our hearts and prayers.

Semper Fidelis, Major. Your legacy lives on.
