Open Arms Dance Project

Open Arms Dance Project A 501(c)(3) community of dancers with diverse bodies, ages, abilities & dance experience creating powerful art together since 2008.

Our mission is to create greater joy and compassion in the community with dance that opens hearts, minds, and arms. Our Vision is to empower a diversity of people to share their own unique creative expression through equitable, collaborative dance making that has the ability to transform communities. The Mission of Open Arms Dance Project is to create greater joy and compassion with dance that ope

ns hearts, minds, and arms. Open Arms Dance Project (OADP) season typically runs from September through May. During our season we rehearse every Tuesday at 5:15pm. Our company rehearsals are followed by OADP Community Class, an inclusive and multigenerational dance class open to everyone and in line with our Vision and Mission. Contact [email protected] to register! In our dance company and OADP Community Class we welcome people with and without disabilities, ranging in age from 7-75+ years young (no upper age limit!). Our dance company performs at an average of five events during our season with a focus on providing free and easily accessed dance performances. We also perform in unexpected and exciting spaces that increase our visibility in the community like the Idaho State Capitol rotunda, through crosswalks, in lobbies, through the Anne Frank Memorial, and on sidewalks in the rain! If you are interested in being a part of Open Arms Dance Project' dance company or community classes as a dancer, fan, supporter, or Board Member, please contact Artistic Director Megan Brandel at [email protected].

Thank you for all the support last week! What a wonderful final performance we had! One audience member came out and told us “I have no words! It was so beautiful!”.
We agree wholeheartedly! This 3-way-collaboration was special and offered the chance to dance to a live orchestra, the sound of sometimes playful, sometimes passionate voices, and the power of all three combined: instruments, voices, bodies moving. Performances this season captivated all senses! We have so much gratitude for Boise Women’s Chorus and Boise High Orchestra for this collaboration.

Thanks also to LED for hosting us in their wonderful theatre - The Dixon! If you haven’t been yet, catch one of their shows soon!

And to all those not mentioned by name here: thank you to contributing to this performance and this entire season. Whether it be with talents or donations to support our art. We deeply appreciate you all. What a special season this was! Thank you for helping our 22 dancers of all ages and all abilities reach and inspire our community towards greater joy and compassion with open hearts, minds and arms!

When I met with Artistic Director of Boise Women’s Chorus, Lindsay Whittig, and Director of Boise High Orchestra, Laurel Talley, on a mutual friend’s patio last summer to begin planning - I had no idea the magnitude of what was to come. This three-way collaboration has evolved into a powerful, dynamic, deeply emotional and satisfying experience with seven performances at various venues across the Treasure Valley. - Megan Brandel, Artistic Director Open Arms Dance Project

WATERWAYS – May 7, 2026 at 10:30am & 7pm, The Dixon Theater, Garden City, Idaho.

Open Arms Dance Project joins forces with Boise Women’s Chorus and Boise High Orchestra in a breathtaking, three-way artistic collaboration this spring. When making art separately, each group consistently explores themes of connection and belonging. This season, they recognized a need to offer the community even more powerful and uplifting art to meet this moment in time.

Remember: You’re Doing Great! Life is hard & we’re glad you’re here doing your best.

This is also a glimpse into the collaborative way our Director, a Behavioral Interventionist, and Open Arms parents work together to help our youngest dancers with disabilities learn and rehearse 7 pieces of choreography for our upcoming shows!:

Thursday, May 7th at 10:30am
There‘s still room for a couple more classes at this great show!
LED’s new Dixon theater, 3300 Chinden Blvd., Garden City, ID 83714
$3/student, 1.5 hour performance that includes fun opportunities for audience participation

Waterways will showcase our collaborations with Boise Women’s Chorus and Boise High School Orchestra, as well as live video projection, audio description & ASL interpretation. All this flows and intertwines with the joyful, compassion evoking art of our intergenerational and inclusive dance company!

Appropriate and enriching for K-12 and post-secondary students. Witnessing inclusion at this level is great for Hope Squad, Sources of Strength, Student Council, and other student leadership organizations.
Teachers who book field trips will receive several educational resources about disabilities to prepare your students to see dancers with and without disabilities, ages 10-83 years young perform. These can help carry the learning & compassion building beyond the day of the field trip.

Open Arms Dance Project Announces WATERWAYS at the new Dixon Theater!

The result is something that will truly open your heart, lift your spirit, and invite you to feel the inherent flow of hope and joy that runs through these performances. Movement, songs, and music focused on water, sky, and the threads that connect us will validate our collective experience and offer space to imagine more inclusive, authentic ways of belonging.
