It's soo hard to catch specific cats when there's 20 others constantly going in the traps.🫠 Clearly my approach needs to change.

Here's one reason why TNR is so great. This guy always had cuts all over his face and just looked so rough overall. Now that he's Neutered he looks so much healthier. Neutered cats means less fighting.
*I couldn't get closer pics cause he's quite feral.

If I'm ever able to monetize that account, I plan on using that for the same cause. That's if Tiktok doesn't get banned, of course!🤞**

Hello All,
It's been a while since I've shared updates on our progress! Before the year ends I would like to share with you all the cats that have been Spayed/Neutered since our efforts began. We successfully got 22 Cats sterilized this year. Most of this was made possible through the Finney County Humane Society, several through our Flippin' Ferals Project and we also were able to get Vet Care for a couple of them when needed through Flippin' Ferals, as well. Thank you immensely to the Finney County Humane Society, Metzen Veterinary Clinic and the new friends we've made along the way.
22 is not a big number in the grand scheme of things, but it does make a difference no matter how small. I can't wait to continue this work with the new year and hopefully make a difference in the lives of these animals and their Caretakers🤍

Yes, yes, yes. And we are proudly almost completely done Spaying and Neutering the colony we care for🙏

Proper management of a colony of community cats is a long term, year-round responsibility. If you cannot commit to proper care do not put food out for any cat. Once you put food out you become a “colony manager” and the cats become dependent on you.

1. If you Feed them 🐾🐾 Please Fix them - (TNR) is the humane and effective approach to reduce the overpopulation of stray and feral cats – collectively known as Community Cats.

2. Create a Feeding Station - Feed and monitor the colony on a daily basis at approximately the same time every day. The cats will look forward to the food arriving and it will make it easier to check on the health of the colony.

3. Cat Shelters - Providing shelters not only helps with temperature control of the cats, but also keeps them more contained and limits what some determine as nuisance behavior.

4. Backup Caregivers - If you go on a trip or move away arrange for a new caregiver or neighbor to handle colony duties. The cats depend on you and it is better for them to remain where they are currently living. Be proactive and consider having backup caregivers to care for the colony.

5. Injuries and Illnesses - Becoming a colony manager is a big and commendable task. The cats depend on you not only for food and shelter but also for their overall wellbeing. Unfortunately, outdoor cats are often faced with illnesses and injuries. It is best to always be prepared. Familiarize yourself with low cost vet clinics that treat community cats.

A big thank you to all the colony managers out there 🐱🐾💜🐱🐾.

📚 Our BACK TO BASICS SERIES: spaying and neutering 🐾 What are the benefits?

The benefits of spaying (females) include:
✅ Population control! No more unwanted litters!
✅ No heat cycles; therefore, males will not be attracted.
✅ Reduction or elimination of mammary gland tumors, ovarian and uterine cancer, especially if done before the first heat cycle.
✅ Reduced incidence of pyometra.
✅ Better overall health for the cat whose body is no longer stressed and depleted by constant reproduction.

The benefits of neutering (males) include:
✅ Population control! No more unwanted litters!
✅ Reduction or elimination of spraying and marking.
✅ Elimination of hormone-fueled cat fights.
✅ Risk of testicular cancer is eliminated, and the incidence of prostate disease is decreased.
✅ Less desire to roam. Toms stay closer to home and tend to become calmer and friendlier.
✅ A reduction in the spread of FIV, a virus spread between cats by deep bites/puncture wounds received while fighting.
✅ Longer lifespan: outdoor intact male cats tend to get hurt or die while roaming in search of a female in heat. Neutering removes the urge to roam.

Sterilizing our community cats is beneficial to the community as well. Cats that are spayed/neutered during the TNR process are healthier animals and make better neighbors. Complaints of overpopulation, fighting, yowling, and marking will decrease, making the cats more welcome members of the community. Sterilization also saves taxpayer and animal welfare dollars as fewer animals will be captured, impounded, and eventually euthanized due to illness, injury, or lack of homes. Save a life! Spay or neuter all the cats -- your pet(s) and those outdoors.

Want to save 100 cats? Just spay one! We can save them all from a life of suffering. Please spay and neuter! 🐱💙
