I was contacted by the Savannah Police Department because an officer knew my story and knew I had experienced the pain of losing my daughter Tierra in a tragic car accident. The officer had a relative from outside of Savannah who was now facing a very similar tragedy — losing his 20-year-old daughter in a car accident. He asked me if I would speak with him, encourage him, and share my story to help give him hope. As a grieving father, he had to witness something no parent should ever have to see. Although our situations were different, our pain spoke the same language. In that moment, I realized again that sometimes God allows us to walk through storms so we can help someone else survive theirs.
This had already been a heavy week filled with tragedy, sickness, and emotional weight within our ministry, but God still made room for one more assignment — to encourage someone who was hurting. That reminded me that purpose can still exist even in the middle of pain. If you are grieving, struggling, or silently hurting, please don’t bottle it up inside. Find somebody you can reach out to. Find someone who will listen, pray with you, walk beside you, and not overwhelm you with questions. Healing often begins when we stop suffering in silence. God can take the deepest pain and turn it into purpose, and sometimes your survival becomes the very thing that helps somebody else keep going.
