Have you ever felt like information in organizations only travels one way?

Decisions are made at the top, shared with everyone else, and that's the end of the conversation.

Sociocracy offers a different approach through something called double-linking.

Every circle is connected to the wider organization by two people:

🔹 A Leader who brings the organization's goals and direction into the circle.

🔹 A Delegate chosen by the circle to carry its ideas, concerns, and experiences back into the broader conversation.

This creates a two-way bridge where information doesn't just flow down as it also flows up.

The result?

✨ People feel heard.
✨ Teams stay connected.
✨ Decisions are informed by real experiences.
✨ Communities become stronger and more collaborative.

Each circle also includes roles like a Facilitator to guide meetings, Administrator/Secretary to keep records, and Members who participate as equals in decisions and action.

We invite you to join us in building communities where participation matters.

What if communities could make decisions differently?

Many of us have experienced situations where decisions are made by a few people, while those most affected have little opportunity to contribute. While this can sometimes be efficient, it can also leave people feeling disconnected from the outcomes.

Sociocracy offers another possibility.

It is a governance approach built around a simple but powerful idea: those affected by a decision should have a voice in shaping it. Through shared leadership, interconnected circles, and consent-based decision-making, sociocracy helps groups become more participatory, accountable, and collaborative.

As we continue exploring ways to build stronger communities, we are learning from approaches that encourage meaningful participation and shared responsibility.

Join the VillageCo 2026 Volunteer Rally and be part of a community exploring new ways of learning, contributing, and building together.

There’s always a moment at a Village Gathering when the room changes.

At first, people arrive quietly , some curious, some nervous, some simply tired from the pace of everyday life. Then slowly, through conversation, reflection, and shared space, something begins to shift.

Someone shares a thought that resonates deeply.
Two strangers discover a shared experience.
A small discussion circle becomes a place of honesty, laughter, and connection.

This is the heart of the Village Gathering Program.

We create intentional spaces for grounding, meaningful conversations, collective reflection, and community-led discussions , spaces where people can simply show up as themselves and connect with others in a genuine way.

We invite you to join us and practice the Village Gathering program.

Less noise.

Less scrolling.
More connection.

That’s the spirit behind this week’s Village Voices feature.

We’re creating space for people to pause, share pieces of their world, and discover the unexpected beauty of hearing from others across the globe.

You never know whose story will stay with you.

Think about the last time you felt truly part of a neighborhood. Not just living next to people, but knowing their names, sharing tools, or sitting down for a real conversation. In our busy, digital-first world, that kind of deep, local connection can feel like a lost art.

At VillageCo we believe that change doesn’t happen from the top down, it happens when people feel they truly belong right where they live.

We aren't about big, impersonal networks. We are about micro-communities. Through our Village Growing Program, we give everyday people the simple tools, shared roles, and coaching they need to start a "Village" on their own street, in their workplace, or within their community group. From our virtual Village Nomad practice spaces to our deeply supportive VillageCore peer network, we are rebuilding civic infrastructure from the ground up.

But to keep expanding these circles into 2026, we need hands, hearts, and minds to help us build the tools and support the leaders making this happen.

If you’ve been looking for a place to put your passion for community into action, we want to meet you.

Meet Michael James, one of our amazing volunteers at VillageCo serving as a WayFinding Helping Circle delegate.

Michael joined VillageCo because of his passion for the public good, community-building, and creating spaces where people feel connected instead of isolated. Since then, he’s supported different circles, helped welcome builders into the first cohort, and built meaningful relationships across the VillageCo network.

One of his favorite memories? Traveling to Seattle and finally meeting people he had connected with through VillageCo in person , proof that community can truly cross borders and grow into something real and lasting.

Through volunteering, Michael has grown both personally and professionally, especially through learning sociocracy and embracing the power of local neighboring and collective care.

And honestly? What he enjoys most is simple but powerful:
“Everyone is so kind, supportive, and thoughtful.”

We celebrate you Michael for your great contribution to VillageCo mission.

In a world that often feels like it’s moving at a breakneck pace, it’s easy to feel like we are constantly running on a treadmill that someone else is controlling. We are taught that “care” is a private matter, something you do for your family behind closed doors, or something you squeeze in between work shifts.

But at VillageCo, we see it differently.

Current times call for the promotion of caring communities through collective action. In a truly caring community, we don’t just live next to each other; we feel connected. We experience a deep sense of belonging and an authentic concern for each other’s health and well-being. This isn’t just a “nice to have,” it is our lifeline.
