Approximately 146,000–160,000 people joined the U.S. armed forces in fiscal year 2024–2025. Of these, comprehensive federal tracking is limited; approximately 22,000 youth from the foster care system join the military annually, often seeking stability, education, and career opportunities. Roughly 6.2% of transition-age foster youth may enlist in the military after high school. That is, 7.27% of our armed forces each year consists of young men and women who the individual States have had in their care.

The military is often considered a viable path for foster youth to gain independence, and, in some cases, required court approval is needed for those under 18. All branches require a high school diploma or GED, which can be a barrier, as foster youth historically have lower graduation rates, though this is improving. Common drivers for enlisting include the need for financial stability, housing, and a structured environment. Some foster youth may face hurdles related to qualifying scores or medical/physical requirements (as 77% of youth 16-24 do not qualify without waivers).

TRUTH CHECK: YES, Trump DID Sign a Major Executive Order to Support Foster Youth Aging Out of Care… Worthy of bringing up..

✔ This event really happened and it never made it on the news.
✔ It was a White House ceremony.
✔ It was tied to a real executive order focused on foster youth.
✔ Melania Trump did lead the initiative behind it…

Here’s the truth ⬇️

1️⃣ What Trump Signed…

President Trump issued the “Improving the Child Welfare System” Executive Order, which focused on:

• strengthening support for foster youth
• expanding access to stable placements
• increasing accountability for agencies
• improving transitions into adulthood

(Sources: White House Archives, HHS.gov)

2️⃣ Why This Mattered..

EVERY year in America:

➡️ 15,000+ kids age out of foster care
➡️ Nearly 50% become homeless within 18 months
➡️ Many struggle with job access, education gaps, untreated trauma, and lack of support
(Sources: National Foster Youth Institute, HHS)

Trump’s order directly addressed these failures…something multiple administrations talked about but never fixed.

3️⃣ Melania’s Role: Fostering the Future..

Melania Trump’s initiative Fostering the Future worked alongside the EO to:

• expand scholarships for foster youth
• improve access to career training
• build pathways to higher education
• highlight children who had no advocates

(Sources: White House East Wing Archives)

She was hands-on with this project…not symbolic, not ceremonial…and Trump publicly acknowledged that by having her sign the order.

4️⃣ This Didn’t Get Media Coverage…Here’s Why..

The same media outlets who push 24/7 political drama:

❌ barely covered the foster care crisis
❌ ignored the positive impact of the EO
❌ downplayed Melania’s role
❌ treated this as a footnote instead of a national priority

Meanwhile, these are real kids who age out of the system with no family, no support, no resources..

Policy like this actually saves lives.

5️⃣ This Is What Leadership Looks Like..

No photo ops with celebrities.
No “feel-good” press conference that goes nowhere.
No political games.

Just real reforms for the most vulnerable kids in America.

This is the kind of leadership people claim they want… and often forget about because the media simply refuses to talk about it..

This is amazing! Congratulations Young Lady, you deserve your scholarship, you’ve earned it!?!

The entire stadium in Minneapolis fell silent as Pete Hegseth set aside his speech notes mid-event, his eyes locking onto a weathered sign held high in the front row:

“I got into Stanford. You said we’d stand together.”

The crowd held its breath as a young woman stepped onto the stage — Lily Tran, once an orphan in foster care, now a full-scholarship student at Stanford University, one of the most prestigious institutions in America. At just 9 years old, Lily had met Pete Hegseth during a community outreach program for veterans and children.

Back then, she had told him her dream: to escape hardship through education and service. Pete bent down, placed a hand on her shoulder, and told her:

“When you get into college, if I’m still out here speaking, we’ll share the stage together.”

Today, she kept her promise. And so did he.

The two delivered an emotional message side by side — Pete speaking about duty, faith, and resilience, while Lily read aloud her own story of perseverance. At first, her voice trembled as she shared the words he had handed her, but with every sentence, her confidence grew — as if every memory, every struggle, and every hope she had carried poured straight into her voice.

The arena, usually filled with loud cheers, fell silent — only to erupt moments later with tears, applause, and thunderous ovations. As the final words faded, Pete leaned down and whispered into her ear:

“You didn’t just keep your promise… you reminded me to keep mine.”

The entire audience rose to their feet, applauding with all their hearts — not just for a speech, but for something far more rare: a moment that rose above words themselves, becoming hope, resilience, and a promise fulfilled.

Did you know that 1 in 4 children in foster care has PTSD?

Let that sink in.

That’s twice the rate of U.S. war veterans.

The trauma these children experience doesn’t always come from one moment. It can be the result of chronic neglect, abuse, multiple moves, separation from parents & siblings or not knowing what tomorrow will bring.

PTSD in foster youth can often look like “bad behavior”; outbursts, shutdowns, hypervigilance or not trusting adults. But underneath those reactions is a brain doing its best to survive.

These kids don’t need more punishment.
They need trauma-informed care.
They need safe people.
They need consistency.
They need healing.

Foster care isn’t just a placement. It’s children’s lives Let’s do better for these kids.
