Eight years ago today, we lost Firefighter Michael Davidson — a hero who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to New York City.
Michael was tragically killed while battling a fire on a Harlem film set, searching for anyone who may have been trapped inside. His loss was felt across the FDNY and throughout our city, and eight years later, that pain is still with us as we honor his memory. Our thoughts remain with his wife, Eileen, his children, his parents, and his brother, FDNY Firefighter Eric Davidson.
As we remember Michael, we also recognize the Davidson family’s unwavering dedication to making sure his sacrifice led to meaningful change. Their efforts helped advance legislation focused on preventing similar tragedies in the future. We are also grateful for the work of the MRD Foundation, established in his memory, which continues to support firefighter families in need.
Today, we stand with Engine 69, Ladder 28, the 16th Battalion, the Harlem Hilton firehouse, and all those who continue to carry Michael’s memory with them. His legacy lives on, and he will never be forgotten.
