John Wilhelm's photo description: "Prescribed burning of invasive grasses has been taking place on Dyerville Road near Huestis Rock in mid-June. The 4-day planned burn went very well with no breach of containment. Led by Briceland Volunteer Fire Department, assisted by several Southern Humboldt fire departments, Cal Fire, Humboldt County Resource Conservation District, and Humboldt County Prescribed Burn Association. The effort to contain the spread of goat grass is of the utmost importance as it has devastating effects on cattle and deer populations that rely on the grasslands for food. Field biologists present were very happy with the fire consumption of the invasive species. Native grasses are adapted to historic burning that has taken place for thousands of years by the Indigenous people of this area."

We're partnering with the Siskiyou Field Institute to offer a two-part hike series exploring the current mining threats looming over some of southern Oregon's most precious places.

Join us for one or both of these outings as we talk more about the threats, why places like Rough and Ready Botanical Wayside and the Eight Dollar Mountain area are such critical landscapes, and how you can help us prepare to defend places like these.

Signups are limited! You can RSVP for the hikes at www.kswild.org/events 🌲
