Today is one of our favorite days of the year...National Pawpaw Day!

The pawpaw was adopted as Ohio's native fruit in 2009 and is the only edible fruit native to Ohio. While it may look like a tropical fruit, pawpaws grow naturally in the forests of Ohio, often along riverbanks and in shady, moist areas. Their soft, custard-like fruit has a unique tropical flavor that's often compared to a mix of banana and mango 🥭

True Chinese Sumac (Rhus chinensis)Smell: Little to no unpleasant odor when crushed.Leaflet Edges: Distinctly toothed or serrated along the margins.Leaf Stems: Features a winged rachis (leaf stem), similar to winged sumac, with leafy green tissue along the central stalk.Fruit: Forms dense, upright, cone-shaped clusters of fuzzy red berries rather than hanging papery seeds.

(Don’t confuse this tree with Tree of Heaven. Even the name is deceiving. Tree of Heaven is stinky. It smells like rancid peanut butter.)
