Thanks to the generous support of The Blue Herron, GMC is proud to present a jazz series, kicking off at Hotel Lucine this Sunday!

In service to the the music stakeholders who participated in the 2025 Community Visioning document, GMC is starting what we call the “Badd Jazz” project— developing a culture of improvisation in every genre, including Jazz for the musicians and residents of Galveston.

This jazz series is to showcase professional jazz musicians to bring the experience of jazz to the community. We will be working with the Tianna Hall and local musicians to showcase jazz talent from Houston, Galveston and surrounding areas.

In turn, other Badd Jazz components will include workshops and collaborations on improvisational music. The workshops and improvisations are an off season project, so definitely stay tuned for more information! And in the meantime, come out and enjoy this free event ❤️

Money on the table! Calling all venues!

She will answer questions about the very sought after and under utilized tax rebate program that can get organizations who sell alcohol and host music thousands of dollars in free money ! Definitely something to not sleep on! Come out, this event is free!

This upcoming Sunday marks the fourth Lucine Locals Originals showcase in a series of ten. Every Sunday until August 9th a different set of local musicians will showcase their original work!

This June 28th, Bony Hips Hopkins, a local blues songwriter who is also very active in the community, will start the night off at 6pm with his soul felt original songs. Then the bombastic young duo — Austin Langford and Jasper Derrick, will finish off the night starting at 7pm until 9pm with their combination of powerful blues, grunge, and folk.

To give a little background, Bony Hips is an inspiration to craft, constantly building up his skillsets including what’s very close to a one man band at this point! Always down to jam, and also to volunteer his time with GMC (his wife Laura included!), we’re proud to give him the stage.

Austin and Jasper, young prolific musicians, are both so strong individually and together pack quite the punch. Their unique sound includes the stunning power in Austin’s voice, the impressive lead guitar from Jasper, fantastic harmonies, and overall quality musicianship (with fun chemistry between the long term friends). This has caught the attention of many, including winning them a live recording at Indies Coffee Bar and Speakeasy earlier this month. Jasper is off to college in the northeast come fall, so don’t miss your chance to hear what this duo offers!

Both of these musical projects will be playing all original sets. There will be live painting presented by Nellie Cornett with 50% of all art sales to go towards musician fees for the series.

Be proud to support local original music by coming out every Sunday! Galveston Music Collective is a 501c3 public charity focused on elevating the Galveston music scene as a whole. Thank you for every role each of you play to bring vibrance, passion, brotherhood, and support to the music scene. When one of us makes it, we all are lifted up! Viva la musica!

The music scene thrives when its music venues are doing well. Where you choose to eat, where you choose to buy a beer, directly feeds the scene!

Galveston businesses depend so entirely on its locals, especially through the lean season. Where you go, where you eat, makes a difference!

Both musicians AND venues need to thrive together to make all of this work. And you, YOU are the key!

Thank you to everyone who intentionally makes it a part of their routine to go see shows and to support businesses that provide music!

I’d like to make a special thanks to the establishments that go a step further, and focus on original music! Respect to Old Quarter and it’s patrons, Indies Coffee and it’s patrons, Hotel Lucine and it’s patrons, and La Izquierda projects and their patrons.

SandWaves (Claude Darby) and live painting by Nellie Cornett was such a treat last Sunday!

The breeze was cool and the setting intimate. We listened to Claude’s entire library of original songs, sharing a snapshot of his humor, vulnerability, and passion in one sitting. Audience members watched Nellie paint two paintings in front of their eyes.

This marks a great beginning to the Lucine Locals Originals series, which will run for 9 more Sundays until August 9th. It is a time to see the full artistic expression of songwriters works.

Paintings that Nellie made were up for sale to help pay for artists fees for the series. The goal is to be able to able to honor the artists for their time and hearts. Thank you Ashton Ford for your photo of Nellie painting ❤

The pelican painting was sold to a lovely couple who the lady was celebrating her birthday. What a lovely way to commemorate their weekend experience!
