Our Galveston Environmental Youth Cohort brought youth and families together for a morning of learning, exploring, and taking action, building environmental leaders along the way! 🌱💚

And y’all, we put in WORK! 👏🏾
🚬 300 cigarette butts collected
🗑️ 7 lbs. of trash removed
🔎 100+ nurdles collected

Huge thank you to our partners Turtle Island Restoration Network (TIRN) and CEER for creating hands-on opportunities for our youth and families to learn, serve, and protect our coast together. 🌊

You’ve heard about our work, you’ve seen us around, but take a peek behind the scenes and meet one of our team members who keeps CTRL+CREATE moving. This summer Robyn Douglas-Ramirez joined our board, but long before that she applied her background and education as a mental health practitioner to make our vision for Galveston’s youth come to life. Through her work at Texas A&M University Youth Rising Lab, we’ve leaned on her for curriculum refinement support to ensure programming is trauma informed and affirming, along with participatory evaluation, data collection, and analysis to ensure our programming is effective.

Our workshops are more than programs. They're pathways and portals for empowering Galveston youth, and it takes a committed community to make that happen. If you’re curious about how you can get involved, feel free to send us a direct message we’d love to connect with you!

The experience helped us grow, make incredible connections, and build even more confidence in the work we’re doing for our community.

Now, as PhilanthroVision Galveston celebrates its 5th anniversary, it’s time for the next group of changemakers to step up! If you know a nonprofit doing meaningful work in Galveston, encourage them to apply.

Huge thanks to Jonathan Warren from Commission Shift for challenging our Galveston Environmental Youth Cohort to think deeper about resource extraction, environmental discrimination, and the fight for environmental justice. 🌎✊

Our youth aren't just learning, they're becoming the next generation of changemakers. 💚
