🌊 Did you know that sound moves 4 times faster in water than it does on land? It is part of why whales can sing to each other from so far away!
La Mer is french for The Ocean. Our program this Sunday at 9am at Galveston Island State Park is named after Debussy's famous symphonic sketches with the same title. He intended for the music to flow like water in a river, sound playful and fun like droplets of water after a wave precedes, and all of the other ways water chooses to present itself. Debussy brought the spirit of water to the symphony.
While a single musician cannot play a symphony alone, cellist and Wild Notes founder Amanda Guilfoyle will be playing a delightful program of French classical, romantic, and impressionist pieces, right on the beach. We feel that Debussy would have wanted his music performed in this way--with the ocean as an ensemble member, not merely a metaphor.
Come, bring a towel or beach chair, and let the sounds of music, wind, waves, and gulls flow like the sound of whalesong in the deep sea.
