Friends of Galveston Island State Park (FoGISP) It's worth befriending! Another goal is to share this Galveston treasure with the pubilc and enlist them in our efforts to preserve it.

FoGISP are volunteers who help with the preservation & enhancement of 2000 acres of surf, beach, dunes, coastal prarie and bay shoreline of Galveston Island State Park. Our mission is to provide enriching experiences and educational programs, improve the Park's facilities, protect its wildlife, and preserve and restore its fragile environment.

Applications for the Scholarship will close on June 20, 2026.

In honor of the late Terry Gaustad, a FOGISP board member, director of Camp Wild and forever educator, we are proud to offer this scholarship. Terry brought the initial idea to the board in 2023 as a way to encourage students to volunteer their time at Galveston Island State Park for Camp Wild and other park volunteer opportunities. Without the support of Terry and countless other volunteers, this scholarship would not be available.

On National Prairie Day 1000 native plants were planted at Galveston Island State Park - Texas Parks and Wildlife with the help of amazing volunteers and our friends at Houston Zoo. Thank you to Get Outside Alliance for hosting and making sure we got this important work done along our Texas coast.
