Several years ago, Galveston ISD set a bold course for the future by launching a strategic plan focused on , establishing , embracing the belief that , and creating purposeful opportunities for #1+ learning in every classroom.
At the time, GISD faced significant challenges and carried a “D” rating under the Texas Education Agency’s accountability system. But our district remained focused, determined and committed to continuous improvement.
Today, that hard work has paid off.
Thanks to the dedication of our students and families, teachers, staff, administrators, Board of Trustees and the entire Galveston community, we are incredibly proud to announce:
GALVESTON ISD IS NOW A “B” DISTRICT!
This achievement belongs to our entire island community. It represents years of hard work, perseverance, collaboration and an unwavering belief that our students can achieve at higher levels.
We set out to — and together, we did it!
From Dr. Matthew Neighbors, Superintendent of Schools:
"Galveston ISD is proud of the progress students are making and the effort staff delivers on their behalf every day. Student performance improved across all EOC subject areas (Algebra I, Biology, English Language Arts, and Social Studies) highlighted by a 17-point improvement in Meets Grade Level for Algebra.
We are committed to addressing weaknesses while celebrating our goal of "1+", meaning we strive for at least a year's growth for every student every school year. With this in mind, Galveston ISD will continue to strive to Raise the Grade!"
