Ship 45 has a new Quartermaster, Congratulations Jonathan Frank!!!! Awesome Bridge of Honor aboard barque "Elissa". Change of Watch (ringing 8 bells for end of watch and beginning a new watch) as 3 of our crew will be leaving on new adventures at college. Proud of my kids, they are AWESOME!!!!

Last weekend we paddled down the San Marcos river, it was an awesome trip! More portages around dams and obstacles than I care to remember but awesome water and awesome people! The kids had a great time enjoying one of their last big events before heading to college (3 out the 4 head to college this summer). The adults that went along were awesome! Rodney had run the river before and we would have been up a creek without his insight and calm demeanor. Our mom that went, Ricci was a paddling maniac... in spite of the long tiring days paddling and all of the challenges that come with an extend primitive camping trip she never complained and always had a smile! With negative weather, we had to modify our float plan and cut the 50 mile trip short at 28 miles but it was still a success! SUPER PROUD OF THESE YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN!

Congrats to our Kraken Eagle/Quartermaster, Ship 45s first to earn Eagle and Quartermaster! Bravo Zulu!

Ryan Shaw of Sea Scout Ship 45 out of Galveston had his Eagle AND Quartermaster Boards of review on November 8th.

Quartermaster is the Sea Scout equivalent to Eagle

CMDR Melton, CO of USCG Galveston, an Eagle Scout himself, agreed to participate in Ryan’s Board of Review.

As part of the BSA/USCG relationship, Ryan was one of two Sea Scouts from Bay Area Council that worked on the USCG Barque Eagle this summer sailing her from Portland ME to New York.

Some interesting facts:
• In 2016 there were 55,186 Eagle Scout ranks awarded nationally (5% of Scouts).
• 9,156,368 Eagle Scout service project hours
• Valued at $215.7 Million dollars of service to our communities
• The average Eagle Scout age when earned is 17.35 years old
• In 2016 there were 36 Sea Scout Quartermaster ranks awarded nationally (Equals .2% of Sea Scouts (point 2 of a percent!). As of October 2017 there have been 23 QMs earned nationally.

Doing both on the same night??? Pretty darn rare!
