Friends of Rosenberg Library "Friends" supports library activities through sales of donated gently used books. Book Shop on the second floor is open during library hours. Join as a member!

Annual sale is in March. “Friends” has been working since 1940 to support Galveston’s Rosenberg Library by providing books, equipment and related materials, and to educate the public about the wonderful services the library provides. The Friends of the Rosenberg Library maintains the Friends Book Shop which is open during regular library hours and is located on the second floor of the library. The Shop offers donated books for sale that have been gently used and in nearly new condition. Friends also holds an Annual Used Book Sale in the Fall that, throughout the years, has become an anticipated event in the community. All book sale profits are dedicated to the library’s circulating materials, such as books, CDs, DVDs, etc., that may be checked-out by library patrons. Friends of the Rosenberg Library relies on the generosity of its community friends to supply the gently used books for both sales, but most especially for the year-round sale in the Friends Book Shop.

Here is some useful information about your book donations for Friends of Rosenberg Library:

We have volunteers on hand to accept donations every Tuesday and Thursday from noon to 2pm, and Saturdays from 10-12 noon. Drive in the alley behind the Library to the "donations" door and ring the buzzer. We can work out alternative times if you have a special need. We do ask that books be in bags or boxes that you don't need back, and that are not too heavy to lift. Volunteers will do their best to find a home for every book you donate.

Books that might be of Galveston/Texas-historic value are shared with the Library's Texas History Center. New-ish books in excellent shape are put for sale in our bookshop (second floor). A few valuable book are placed for sale on Amazon. Most books are priced and boxed up to be stored in the attic for the March sale. Those unlikely to sell are given to our "Outreach" team members who seek avenues to donate books (including little free libraries, nonprofits, hospitals and clinics, care facilities, etc--let us know if you are aware of other places). Books that are falling apart but interesting for art teachers to use are given to them for their students to use in collages. Unfortunately some books given to us have been poorly stored and are too soiled or fragile for reuse, and some textbooks that are terribly out of date and not useful, are recycled, which is our absolutely last option because we love books.

All money received from book sales goes directly back to the Library for purchase of new books and other circulating materials. If you are a book lover please consider becoming a member of Friends https://www.friendsoftherosenberglibrary.org/member. Maybe you'll want to volunteer to help with the March sale! Please feel free to share this information with your friends.
