Marine Jerry Dale Purdon who served during Cuban Missile Crisis passed away May 21, 2026. Marine Corps League Detachment 668, Galveston, TX members Greg Krueger, Ronnie Mills, James Harvey, and Steve Franks participated in a Honor Service for Jerry Purdon on May 29, 2026. Jerry Purdon served as Chief of Police with the Texas City Police Department from October 1, 1985 to December 9, 2002.

Galveston Daily News featured Verlene Lindsey on their front page with her laying a carnation on a memorial placard of a U.S. submarine that was lost at sea either by enemy or accident. Ms. Lindsey is an Associate Member of Marine Corps League Galveston Detachment 668. Also featured was Vietnam combat veteran Art Vega with one picture of him saluting white crosses indicating the fallen on Memorial Day at the Naval Museum on Pelican Island, Galveston, Texas. He is also pictured playing taps at Memorial Ceremony ending the event. Art Vega is a member of Marine Corps League Detachment 668 in Galveston, TX.

The setting is the Galveston County Texas Vietnam Memorial at Moody Gardens Hotel Sunday May 24th, 2026. Members of Marine Corps League Detachment 668 , Galveston County worked on updating the Vietnam Memorial with a new bow to be ready for Memorial Day this year on May 25th, 2026. Detachment 668 members are going to play Taps at all of the War Memorials on Galveston Island on Memorial Day in honor of those who have served and laid down their lives for our country. Marine Corps League Galveston Detachment 668 presented a Memorial Service for Marine Roy Ellington Mathews. Roy Mathews served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1962 as a prison guard. He also played basketball for the United States Marine Corps. Detachment 668 Marines and Associates in attendance for the Honor Service included James and Tina Harvey, Steve and Lyn Franks, Ronnie Mills, Ted Nugent, Randy Thomas, Art Vega, and Verlene Lindsey. The Honor Service was on May 23rd, 2026 at the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 6609 Fairwood Drive, Hitchcock, TX 77563.
