The City of Galveston will illuminate historic City Hall with blue lights on Monday, October 5 in celebration of World Teachers’ Day.
The City of Galveston is celebrating World Teachers’ Day, held annually on October 5 to commemorate the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the status of teachers. This Recommendation sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers.

The COVID-19 pandemic has added to the challenges faced by already over-extended education systems throughout the world. The City of Galveston is grateful for the vital role teachers’ play in our community and their ability to adapt and rise above the new challenges the pandemic has created.

The City of Galveston is marking the day by lighting the front of the building blue to show our support for Galveston teachers and educators around the world.

“Teachers are one of the bedrocks of our society,” Mayor Pro Tem Craig Brown said. “I’m thankful for the teachers in our community who educate and help provide our youth with the knowledge and skills they need to better themselves and the world around them. We’re looking forward to this opportunity to show support for our teachers and would encourage residents to join us by reaching out and sharing your thanks to the teachers in your life.”
