Father/Daughter day at the chizh yard. Sweetheart is running the splitter and I’m cutting out the rounds. Our volunteer efforts continue daily, to provide firewood to our most vulnerable elders and those in need. I’m so proud of my daughter, she knows a lot already, responsible enough to run the big equipment and keep up with her old man.

Take your kid to work day! NMSU hosted our annual Zuni Mountains Collaborative partners meeting. Chizh For Cheii updates to our team partners as we develop more expansion of our non profit organization efforts. It was a good time with our teams/friends. My daughter got to see the deeper working details of Chizh For Cheii as how many are truly involved with bringing warmth to elders and those in need. Thank you to our collab partners for the good food and sharing some laughs. Daughter and I, took a field trip on our own to learn about uranium mines. (Fun fact) did you know there’s some areas of Chizh For Cheii we will not harvest wood due to uranium downwinds from open mines left from over 40 years ago??? Yup true. Everything that is wood, still involves all the problems and challenges we face on Navajo Nation. From substance abuse to forest restoration land management, from environmental issues to lack of mental health interventions. I believe we at Chizh For Cheii have made some solutions to building strong warriors for strong actions to big problems. We’re getting somewhere, slowly but this is an all or nothing matter. What started as a sober solution for myself, to just move wood in my old tour van to now speaking at universities with likeminded people who want to solve problems for human beings. It’s a good feeling I owe all to my Creator.

We’re not strangers to running on empty. We’ve been very resourceful over the years to stay in operation. Honest truth is, this season has been tough on our wallets and we already know this is only going to become more challenging. Fuel is our biggest cost, daily operations average $500 per day. But in a days work, our team can produce enough wood to take care of 14 elders. That’s a total of $3,500 worth of wood if we were for profit. But as a non profit that’s how much wood in dollars we are giving away daily. Deliveries of running 8 trucks with trailers has slowed down due to today’s current gas prices. We know everyone is going through these tough times as well, it’s why we are always grateful of any opportunity for support from our contributors. Much of our gear is hanging in there, parts get broken and other parts need replacing but we find our ways to make it happen. We hope this post encourages you to join us, get hands on experience of how this works and helps so many. We also want to out the vibe out there to keep any grant opportunities to be sent our way. We’re a sober crew, everyone is one a sobriety journey, we do workshops with youth and we build warriors to new potentials. We’re get ask how people can help, just talking with others about us is helpful. Joining us for a few hours is helpful. On our website, we have a page to contribute but we can also navigate through inbox messages or via email at [email protected] We also have an account with Gallup Lumber plus our nonprofit Wells Fargo acct. Thank you for keeping us fueled. You are all amazing. We appreciate you.

Hot work days to prepare for cold hard days. Chizh For Cheii deep down is about sobriety, many times we reflect on our past and grateful to be blessed with another chance at life to do good for others. We prefer to work in the cold but the summer heat has seem to hit us early. But we still have very cold nights in the high regions of Navajo Nation. Many of our elders rely on this volunteer service. We don’t have funding rolling in like most people assume. Much of what’s been funded has come directly from my movie paychecks. Why do it? Why not, there’s many elders who just don’t have the resources or money or physical bodies, the way we see it, is this short term character development in the heat, is best on us than our elders. With more sites coming soon, we just want to remind our public that we’re consistently working. We want to help as many people as possible this upcoming season. So please respect our wood yards, our collaborative partners like the chapters that host us and of course all our volunteers. DM or email us at [email protected] is your like to help us out in whatever way you want to help us. Be happy to have you get involved. Also getting your hands dirty, is the best way to understand what we are about and how it all works.

From the back seat of the police vehicle to the chizh yard for the people. Grateful we have always had the support from law enforcement near and far. Our Navajo Nation is always working hard, long drives to cover big areas of land and handle their protection duty professionally. Sergeant Billie came by to make sure our Chizh yard in Sanders AZ is safe and check in with our team. The more our wood sites across Navajoland grow, the more attention we get, some of that attention can attract bad behaviors. We want to make sure our year, is successful and that we can continue bringing free firewood to our most vulnerable and those in need. Thank you Navajo Nation Police for supporting us.

Fun fact: our collaborations go way back, our dedicated law enforcement officers have taken notes for us to help those that are extreme need on some of their calls. We appreciate that we have that relationship with them.
