Indigenous Life Ways

Indigenous Life Ways ILW began collective action, culture-based

organizing in 1987 as the Southwest Indigenous

Uranium Forum.

As an Indigenous oriented organization, we utilize traditional knowledge, ceremonies, and a deep understanding of our communities to provide education and facilitate opportunities as we work to create health, prosperity, and capacity for our community. In our 30 years we have worked

with over 150 Tribes and convened a gathering of

Indigenous Peoples from Alaska, North America,

Bolivia and Japan

converged near Acoma Pueblo to

discuss uranium developments and share

knowledge, experiences, and strategies combating

nuclear power worldwide. We continue our work

protecting Sacred Sites and our precious water.

Women in Wellbriety Month is a time to honor the strength and wisdom of women on the healing journey. The Women in Wellbriety Journal offers a space for reflection about the role of women in our lives and recovery, how intergenerational trauma might have uniquely affected women, and how our traditions and culture might have shaped our views.

We encourage people of any gender to complete the prompts in this journal to promote healthy views of women and gender dynamics. Be sure to tune in next month for a similar set of prompts about men and masculinity!

We are excited to share an upcoming series of virtual "Lunch and Learn" opportunities created for community birthworkers, home visitors, and those working across perinatal health.
These sessions are designed to support your work in a meaningful and grounded way by offering space for learning, reflection, and connection. Each gathering will center practical tools, shared knowledge, and approaches that strengthen how we show up for our families and communities.
Whether you are new to this work or have been walking alongside families for years, these offerings are for you.
Registration is available through the QR code included in the flyer. We encourage you to register early, as space may be limited.
We look forward to being in community with you.

Today at Rex Museum!

Celebrating the rich legacy of the Mother Road, America’s Main Street, the Route 66 Centennial Traveling Exhibit will be on view in Gallup, NM at the Rex Museum, May 9 - December 31, 2026. The exhibit marks two major milestones: the 100th anniversary of Route 66 and the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The Rex Museum is located at 300 W Historic Highway 66 in Gallup. The exhibit will be open to the public from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on May 9 (Saturday) during Gallup's ArtCrawl. General hours for the exhibit throughout the summer are Tuesday- Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Drawing from the documentary film series Route 66: The Untold Story of Women on the Mother Road by project director Katrina Parks, the traveling exhibit combines large-format interpretive panels, audiovisual materials, and educational activities designed for youth and family audiences. Together, these elements invite visitors to explore how Route 66 shaped American history, culture, and identity through the stories of the people who lived, worked, and traveled along it. From the glow of neon signs to the steady hum of tires on open pavement, every mile of Route 66 tells a story. For nearly a century, the road has drawn visitors from around the world and continues to hold countless stories waiting to be uncovered.
The Route 66 Centennial Traveling Exhibit is funded in part through a grant from the New Mexico Tourism Department and with generous support from the Octavia Fellin Public Library, Grants Main Street, WHEELS museum, and many other institutions. The exhibit will continue to travel to communities along the Mother Road, highlighting local histories while connecting them to the broader national story. For more information about exhibit hours, programming, or upcoming tour locations, please visit www.route66exhibit.com.

Happy Matriarchs Day to MOTHER Earth, to Creator, to the Land for giving us life!

To the Matriarchs, the grandmothers, mothers, aunties, nonbinary nurturers, 2S caretakers, and not-step-moms but moms-that-stepped-up.

Before the nuclear family we had villages. Raising children was a shared responsibility and extended family, neighbors, and friends contributed to child rearing. Many Indigenous communities still live in this way for it is the natural way of life.

For those who have experienced the loss of a mother, or have a complicated relationship with your mother, know that you always have Creator, Mother Earth to guide and protect you. Turn to the Matriarchs in your life, elders or peers– give love, be loved. We see you!

Gratitude to all Matriarchs who are out here Mothering and breathing life into us every day.
