In early April, we kicked off our 2026 fundraising initiative to secure 100 people or organizations to donate $25 a month for 3 years. As one of our longest supporters, Ohio Valley Bank stepped up to the plate again and offered to match, dollar for dollar, all donations received up to $10,000!!! Because of their generosity and the generosity of many others in the community, this initiative could result in an over $100,000 investment for Gallia County. A huge thank you to Larry Miller, Ryan Jones, Tom Wiseman, and the rest of the Ohio Valley Bank team for all they do to support our community.

THANK YOU to all of the amazing donors that made this year’s Fill the Freezer a success!

This year 27 hogs were donated to the freezer to help fight food insecurity in our county. The Fill the Freezer initiative was launched in 2023 and a total of 73 hogs have now been donated.

We would also like to announce that we are now starting fundraising efforts in order to process 50 hogs to donate in 2026! Please see the QR code below for more information.

Another incredible event in the books!!!🧬🔬🧪

Yesterday we were honored to host COSI - Center of Science and Industry here in Gallipolis for a day of STEMM learning. Students from all over the county were able to participate in hands on science experiments in addition to meeting and interacting with some of our local employers. Thanks to Foundation for Appalachian Ohio for presenting us with this opportunity.

Thank you to Holzer Health System for sponsoring the event, providing a venue, and sharing some of your incredible staff as industry partners.

Thanks to our other industry partners J-LAR Fab Worx, Gavin Power Plant & Rolling Hills Generating, and JB-Nets Broadband Services for sharing what it is you do with our students.

The freezer was filled!!!🐷🙌

A huge thank you to all our sponsors, donors, and exhibitors for supporting this incredible initiative. Because of you, roughly 3 months worth of protein will be supplied to Gallia county food pantries.

This year we were able to process 27 hogs towards the campaign in part due to the generosity of the Gallipolis Shrine Club helping cover additional processing costs. Thanks again to R & C Packing Inc, the Gallia County Jr Fair, Columbia Gas of Ohio, Nisource, and so many more.

We are super excited for another year of Fill The Freezer!!! If you are interested in donating or learning more, find us at the fair!!

The Gallia Community Foundation’s Fill the Freezer campaign is back for a third year and ready to score another triple win for our communities:

• For local 4-H youth
• For local families facing food insecurity
• For local food pantries serving our neighbors

This Saturday at the Gallia County Junior Fair, buyers at the junior livestock sale can donate their hog purchases and everyone can donate money to cover meat processing costs to fill the freezers of the county’s food pantries.

Together with the Gallia County Jr Fair Board, 4-H members, the SE Ohio Foodbank, local food pantries and corporate sponsors Columbia Gas of Ohio and the NiSource Charitable Foundation, we’re fighting hunger – one pig at a time.
