Apparently grocery shopping now comes with a side of “check the recall list before you eat it.”
More recalls hitting shelves right now, and the list keeps growing. At this point, checking the FDA recall page needs to happen before checking the expiration date.
Panorama Produce is pulling Martina brand mangoes over possible Salmonella contamination. The fruit was sold at Walmart and other retailers, and this one landed just this weekend.
Everything Sprouts is recalling Robust Radish Mix in 5-ounce cups because the sprouts may be contaminated with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli or Salmonella. Sprouts are already one of the highest-risk raw foods, and this hits lots 223, 226, 230, and 233.
Crystal Temptations is pulling its Little Temptations Chocolatey Eyeballs in every size from 7 to 16 ounces because the label never disclosed milk. Anyone with a dairy allergy could be blindsided. A missing allergen warning is not some tiny labeling mistake when it can send somebody to the ER.
Kofinas Garlic Mediterranean Infused Extra Virgin Olive Oil is being recalled in 100, 250, and 500 ml bottles. It contains garlic essential oil that is not approved for culinary use. Yes, apparently we have reached the point where you need to investigate your olive oil too.
Midwest Poultry Services expanded its egg recall to a staggering 1,589,577 DOZEN white and brown cage-free shell eggs produced in Texas over Salmonella Enteritidis. Check every carton in your fridge. That is more than 19 million individual eggs potentially caught up in one recall.
Publix is recalling baby food pouches after testing found elevated lead levels in fruit and vegetable purees. If you have a baby or toddler at home, stop feeding these immediately. Baby food should be one of the last things parents ever have to worry about containing elevated levels of lead.
Walmart’s Bettergoods Pistachio Nut Butter tested positive for Salmonella and was sold in 19 states including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and Washington. The 6.7-ounce jars need to go straight in the trash.
Whole Foods pulled select salsas, guacamole, pico de gallo, and other prepared foods over a possible health risk. Lidl also recalled its Vitasia Asian Style Wok Spice Mix for Salmonella.
And because apparently the humans weren’t enough…
On the pet side, Northwest Naturals Chicken Recipe is recalled for possible Salmonella and Listeria, and Fromm wet canned dog food is being pulled for possible metal contamination. Even your dog’s bowl is not safe this week.
Mangoes. Sprouts. Chocolate. Olive oil. Eggs. Baby food. Nut butter. Salsa. Seasoning. Dog food.
At what point does “check for recalls” officially become part of unloading the groceries? Check your pantry, fridge, and freezer tonight. When in doubt, throw it out.
