Following Milo!
On Tuesday, Milo had his vision checked by Dr. Nick. Usually, Milo participates in therapeutic exercises for his full hour at session, but every now and then, a half hour is set aside for an exam.
We have great news. Milo’s eyes have gone from 20/50 (when he started therapy at Walesby last January) to 20/30!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
At our next progress checkup, he’ll likely have his prescription changed and get a new set of glasses. At that point, prisms may also be added to the glasses.
Milo has been wearing an opaque (partly transparent) patch over his stronger eye, to strengthen his weaker eye and bring both eyes in to better alignment. This blurs his stronger eye’s vision and strengthens his weaker eye, preventing his brain from ignoring the weaker eye’s input. His patch will be decreased in strength this week, so that we can start moving in to the “eye teaming” phase. If we move too quickly by totally removing the patch altogether (even though his eyes are now both at 20/30), it could create further weakness in his left eye, so the process must be gradual.
At the end of Milo’s check up, Dr. Nick said, “He’s working hard. You should be proud of this kid - he’s a hard worker!” I shared how Milo has been consistently doing his at-home eye exercises 4 times per week (the minimum required is 2). Dr. Nick said he could tell.
So proud of this boy!
