A medida que el clima se calienta y las familias comienzan a disfrutar del agua, es el momento perfecto para enfocarnos en mantener a nuestros niños seguros. Ya sea en la playa, la piscina, el lago o un muelle, unas simples precauciones pueden marcar la diferencia.

Un niño puede ahogarse en tan solo 20 segundos, y muchas veces ocurre en silencio.

✅ Supervise siempre de cerca a los niños cerca del agua

💧 May is Water Safety Month! 💧

As the weather warms up and families head to the water, it’s the perfect time to focus on keeping our children safe. Whether you’re visiting the beach, pool, lake, or dock, a few simple precautions can make all the difference.

👀 Did you know?

It can take as little as 20 seconds for a child to drown—and often it happens silently.

✅ Always supervise children closely around water

🦺 Make sure kids wear properly fitted life jackets when needed

🏊 Enroll children in swim lessons as early as possible

☀️ Stay aware of water conditions, hazards, and weather

🚫 Avoid distractions—designate a “water watcher” at all times

Water safety is everyone’s responsibility. By staying alert and prepared, we can help ensure a fun and safe summer for all!

Please note: Beginning in May, Administrative Board Meetings will resume their regular schedule and will be held on the third Tuesday of each month at 5:00 P.M.

This month, the team at Galax Department of Social Services is wearing blue in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Blue is the official color of child abuse awareness. It represents hope, healing, and the commitment to protect children from abuse and neglect. By wearing blue, we stand together to raise awareness and remind our community that every child deserves a safe, loving, and supportive environment.

Child abuse prevention starts with all of us. Strong families and connected communities play a vital role in keeping children safe. Together, we can make a difference by supporting one another, speaking up, and ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive.
