Recently, SEIU 500 leader and English Composition Assistant, Chris Campbell, spoke with the press about the critical role he serves and the devastating impact these proposed cuts would have.
After 12 years serving students at Quince Orchard High School, Chris is now facing a possible layoff.
As Chris said: “There isn’t a job on that list that is non-essential.”
English Composition Assistants play a critical role in helping students strengthen their reading, writing, communication, and academic skills every single day. They analyze learning data, improve student writing and reading skills, support college essays, and provide vital support in classrooms with students who have varying levels of English proficiency.
These dedicated support staff are not extras — they are essential.
Cutting English Composition Assistants means less support for students, more strain on educators, and fewer opportunities for student success.
We call on the Board of Education to reject cuts to these vital positions and find another way forward.
