Gainesville Camellia Society - GCS Gainesville Camellia Society (GCS) We enjoy all camellias, including japonicas, sasanquas, reticulatas, hybrids, and species. Dues are due July 1 each year.

The Gainesville Camellia Society is a local society in Gainesville, Florida, whose members meet in the fall, winter and spring months and who present an annual Camellia show during that period, typically the first full weekend in January. The monthly meetings are devoted to the various cultural aspects of the Camellia, including grafting, air layering, pruning, and applying gibberellic acid for earlier and larger blooms. Annual dues are: Single, $15, and Joint Membership, $20. We usually meet from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on the third Sunday of the month from September through May. We usually meet in the GRU Conference Room at Kanapaha Botanical Gardens, located at 4700 S.W. 58th Drive Gainesville, FL 32608. The main entrance is on SW Archer Road (State Road 24), 1 mile west of Interstate 75 (exit #384). Our feature event is an interesting speaker. Refreshments are served and camellia plants are auctioned. Our Camellia Show is the first full weekend of each new year at Kanapaha Botanical Gardens. The next show will be January ??????, 2016, and will highlight all the camellias in bloom. GCS is also a member of The American Camellia Society and the Atlantic Coast Camellia Society.

Quite a few camellias are already in bloom. GCS is getting ready for its first Camellia show since the Covid 19 made itself felt country wide. Mark your calendars. The Show will be at Kanapaha Botanical Gardens on January 7-8, 2023 and camellia sales will begin at 9 a.m. on the 7th. The show will be open to the public at 1 p.m. on Saturday and all day Sunday until 4 p.m. Hope you can make it.

GCS is having its November meeting on Sunday, the 20th at 2 p.m. at Kanapaha Botanical Gardens. Randolph Maphis from Tallahassee will share his extensive knowledge of Camellias with us with a program entitles "Them are Some Great Ones". Come and learn about camellias and identify some you might want to have in your yard.

Camellias are "The Queen of Winter", offering beauty when other flowers are dormant or have met their demise. You will be welcome.
